slider Hitch height from bed of truck to hitch plate?
Hello, I am in the process of getting a new 29rlbs and considering a couple of hitchs. I would like to know what the hitch height is from the bed of the truck to the hitch plate in a Chevy 2500 HD or GMC 2500 HD 2WD (4WD would be nice to know also). One hitch I am considering is a Trailer Saver by Hensley but it is not adjustibe. It is 16inches tall and when installed on the Hensley slider it is another 1 1/2 inches. I was wondering if that would make the 29rlbs ride high in the bed? Hate to order something that causes the trailer to not ride level. I would appreciate and information anyone can provide. Like Hitch height, height of the king pin to the groung, when the 29rlbs is level and if it's not too much trouble the height of the 29rlbs from the bottom of the 29rlbs to the truck bed when attached to the truck. Thanks! I am new to the 5th wheel environment. Have had TT for a long time approx. 30 years and hope not to make too many mistakes in the conversion. Appreciate any help??

Duke,
I don't own a Chevy (see signature), but my advice would be to purchase a hitch that has adjustable height. If you have the dealer install the hitch, give him the measurement from the ground to the hitch pin base on the trailer when the trailer is level. Tell him that's where you want the hitch to be when the weight of the trailer is on it. If it needs adjusting when you get it home (fully loaded) you at least have the ability to do that with an adjustable hitch. Just be careful of the clearence between the trailer and the side rails of the pickup bed. My 27RLBS drops the truck about 1.5" on my Ram 2500 - 4WD. The units sits just a tad above level and I've never found that to be a problem when towing. The trailer suspension seems to adjust for the slight nose up attitude.

hitch height
Thanks for the input. That sounds good to me. I see from your profile you have a 29rlbs, same as what I have ordered. Do you know what the height is from the ground to the pin on your trailer when it's level? I guess it would be the same as on the one I have ordered. I know our trucks are different. How high is the base plate on your hitch in the bed of your truck , from the pickup bed to the top of the base plate?? Hope I haven't asked too many questions. The lowest the hensley hitch base plate can be is 15 inches to the bed of the truck, then if I add their slider I add another 1 1/2 inches. That makes my lowest adjustment from the bed 16 1/2 inches..Any thoughts?? Thanks for the reply.. Duke
slider height
Mike, do you have a slider hitch? What kind? What is the height from your bed to the top of your hitch plate? Also, what is the proper clearance between the top of the truck bed and the bottom of the trailer when hitched?? thanks ! Duke

I have the Husky 16K hitch sitting on a Valley PowerPull slider. It is set at the next to the lowest setting.
The hitch plate, when level, measures 16" above the bed of the Ram. On the level, the base plate on the Cat is 46.5" above the ground.
On my setup, the trailer clears the bed rails by 4" and I've never had a problem.

Thanks Mike, I really appreciate all the effort in taking those measurments. I'll look them over with my truck and see how it might workout. THANKS AGAIN!! Duke
