I run the bully dog triple dog, I'm not sure what all the ford guys run I know alot run the edge with attitude. I like my triple dog I can scan DTC codes and erase if they are not important plus it has three power settings 40,75,90 horsepower I usually tow with the forty and drive empty with the 75 for better fuel milage. The only thing bad about the bully dog is it has the highest EGT's compared to the rest. I'm not to worried about it now I've deleted the emissions and went to a 4" exhaust still sounds like stock just a lower tone.

Re: Power Chip
DP-tuner all the way. I had a superchips originally and it helped over stock, but the dp-tuner tunes are the ticket. They have great customer service and the tunes are taylored to your needs (up to 16 tunes available per chip). If you tow or live in high altitude areas, they have a few tow programs geared to keep EGT's down when you are above 4000ft. I have the 40hp and 60 hp tow tune for the WC. Both work great, the 40hp tune keeps the temps down a little better, but you loose a little power. Make sure a trans and pryo (EGT) gauge are installed first otherwise engine damage can occur if you run it too hot. This is true for any aftermarket tuning.

Re: Power Chip
I've had three different chips on the 7.3. Originally a Western Diesel, then a Diesel Inovations and now a DP Tuner. The DP tuner is hands down the best, it performs very well and they have done a lot of research on the programs.

Re: Power Chip
I have Western Diesel gauges from 2001 still going. I remember their tri-position chip that grenaded a few engines years ago. I think some were running propane. I know DP-tuner has the equipment that they run on their test mules to monitor all sorts of parameters so we have safe tunes.

Re: Power Chip
i installed the new hypertech max a few weeks ago. it also has three settings. what i was looking for was a little more power and some increase in mileage. i have been told that these programmers do not increase mileage however mine has increased from 14mpg to 16.5 mpg. this could be also due to finally being able to correct my tire size. i run 285's instead of stock 245's. the power increase is certainly noticeable on the second level. i dont plan on putting it on level 3. the install was very easy, plug and play. i also was looking for a programmer with minimal problems and one thats been around for a while with a company that has a good reputation. i was very nervous about messing with this stuff on a very expensive truck. anyway, the hypertech has met or exceeded my expectations.
Re: Power Chip
A chip can give you better mileage, if you keep your foot out of it. But, it's way too much fun, so don't plan on any huge increases. When I can control myself, I get about 2mpg better, but that is a combination of DP Tuner, better injectors, and a couple other mods.

Re: Power Chip
i had a bulldog (hand held) programmer and switched to the Edge Evolution because i wanted the readouts. the power isn't as good and the milage sucks. where i was getting 14.5 towing my 30 ft fifth wh, now i get 14 NOT TOWING. i get 10-11 towing. i have the bullydog airbox and the bullydog 4" exhaust. we're still trying to find out why. i may change programmers again.

that sounds normal to me (10-11 mpg towing, 14 empty). I don't know what you drive, but if you are depending on the factory MPG computer, it will be skewed higher with different programming.

Re: Power Chip
i have an 06 superduty. 6.0 diesel, i calculate the milage the old fashioned way.
this tuner gives me less than stock milage. the bullydog was so much better and i can't understand why.

I'd call Jody at DP Tuner and ask him. He has/had the ability to reprogram the Edge products with his custom tunes. He may be able to get you some tunes geared to your preference. I know I has the SCT programmer with his tunes for tow, econo and race. I'm sure he could put them on the Edge.
FWIW, I filled up a couple days ago and I averaged a little over 14 with mixed town/highway and about 100 miles with my 3500# dump trailer. I had about 530 miles on the tank when Ihand calc'd it. Yes I was empty. 530/14=38 gal.

Your current mileage sounds normal for a 6.0. Getting 14.5 when towing with a 6.0 is fantastic; I'd put it back the way it was!
My 7.3 gets 16 empty (on a really good day) and 10 towing and 7.3's are known for getting a little better mileage than 6.0's.
I drive a 6.0 company rig that averages 12.5, not towing anything but with a utility body (about 10k lb). I think it would be doing good to get 14 if it was empty. When I pull my snow cat (GCW 23k lb) I get 8-9.

Re: Power Chip
going through some contacts to see if we can re-program the programmer. with the bullydog i was getting between 18-20 hwy(no load) now..12.5-14.
bullydog had more power on level 3(towing) than the edge has on level 4.
and much better mileage. if i can't get this to work, i'll go to tripledog.
or check into DP.

Re: Power Chip
On the bullydog level three is the extreme program your not going to want to tow anything on that level anyways you'll eventually limp the tranny. Any heavy load you only want to tow on the 40 horsepower level 1 You can do some light or short distance towing on level 2 but I don't push it to far. I run the performance tune empty and I'm averaging 17 to 19 mpg, and trying to keep my foot out of it.
