Leaving Thursday for Grand Teton and Yellowstone
Wheels up at 5am and headed for Colter Bay RV and then on Sunday up to Yellowstone for some flyfishing. If any fellow Caters are in the area, let me know. Interested in how the crowds will be and will report from GTNP and Yellowstone.

Have a good one Keith! We loved it there and please report on the crowds. It was busy when we were there this spring even with snow all around use in Fishing Bridge but are curious how busier it could be or not because of fuel prices!

Oh man, I am so jealous. You're headed to such a beautiful place. It's probably going to be two more years before we get back there again. Have a safe trip.

Looks like this could turn out to be a "mini-meet" or small rally. Hope you all get to meet up.

Re: Leaving Thursday for Grand Teton and Yellowstone
We are over in western Oregon right now. Plan to be in the Jackson area on Friday 7/18 and Saturday 7/18 (maybe Thursday). We will probably just camp south of Jackson, maybe somewhere in Star Valley (We try to avoid the crowded campgrounds). Probably won't go into Yellowstone but will make the loop through Grand Teton. Cat pulled by gold with black trim 2000 Ford super cab; NM plates.

Re: Leaving Thursday for Grand Teton and Yellowstone
I'm going crazy sitting here in my stick and brick house while others are heading to the Tetons and Yellowstone. Earlier this year the NPS installed the parks first live streaming video of Old Faithful. I think I check on it twice a day and watch it for about 10 minutes at a time.
Getting on my soapbox.
I do think that parks like Yellowstone should be called wilderness areas rather than parks. I really think the word "park" tends to give some people a sense of safety and security. Yellowstone can be a dangerous place.
In May a woman suffered severe burns on her leg and ankle when the ground she was walking on in the paint pots area gave way. One of her legs went into a previously unknown underground pool with water of 170 degrees.
More recently a 12 year old boy was injured when he was tossed 10 feet into the air by a buffalo. Fortunately he wasn't seriously injured. The boy was posing with family members and standing too close to the buffalo despite warnings from other visitors.
Stupid is, as stupid does.

Re: Leaving Thursday for Grand Teton and Yellowstone
Kieth, look for a gold pickup with black trim; 2000 Ford supercab, NM plates. If we are running around, it will more than likely be without the cat. If you have coverage from Colter Bay (I'm guessing you have a broadband modem) let me know what space you are in; that place is huge.

Could have been me, they tend to sneak up on you. Last year were at Yellowstone between Fishing Bridge and Canyon City. It was just after sunset and my son wanted to take some photos of a moon rise. It as almost dark so had to set up a tripod and take a little time. We were right next to the road with the truck parked on the shoulder. We did not know we were standing in the middle of a bison trail. Had our backs to the truck and a small hill while concentrating on the camera when our dog (bless him) who was in the back of the truck started raising hell. Neither one of us paid attention at first, but after a minute or so I turned around and saw a huge bison coming over the hill, silhouetted against the sky. I was a little speechless and just told Dan "We gotta go". He (still looking through his camera the other direction) said "wait, not yet". I said "Now, let's go!". At that point he turned, saw the bison and we quickly moved to the other side of the truck. Closest point of approach about 20'. Needless to say, the dog got a treat.
