Dallas to Walt Disney World

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 1/31/2010, 9:51 pm

We left home on Jan 17. Stopped for the first night at Ameristar Casino RV park in Vicksburg, MS. Second night - Hollywood Casino RV park in Bay Saint Louis, MS. We like to stay at casino campgrounds. We're very low rollers, but manage to get a free night in the campground, and sometimes a free meal. Our third night was at Tallahassee West KOA. We like this campground. It is close to I-10, but far enough away that we don't get any highway noise. The only other thing at this intersection is a Shell station that sells diesel. Florida interstates have a lot of rest areas, and for amusement, I put all of the rest areas on I-10 from Alabama to I-75, and the ones on I-75 from I-10 to the Florida turnpike in the address book of our GPS.

We stayed 4 nights at the resort where my brother lives near Leesburg, FL. One day we went out on his boat. We love going through the channels from lake to lake. Didn't spot any alligators. MY sis-in-law said there are very few alligators since the drought - maybe now that the water is back, the gators will come back.

We went from Leesburg to Walt Disney World. The weather has been cool to cold. We've been here during this same week many times, and we don't remember it ever being this cold. Usually we have mostly pleasant days. We're heading home tomorrow - I understand it's colder there. Time to start planning our next trip.

We have a nice campsite - one we've never been in before. The ones I requested were taken. There seem to be more campers here than in past years at this time. The parks are relatively empty, though. The snowbirds come in, but many don't go into the parks. Our site is very nice, as you can see from the photos.

Scruffy figured out how we can have both Direct TV AND park cable without having to go outside to change the hookup...... very convenient!

We haven't decided how many days we're going to take to get back home. There are some places we've been meaning to visit/camp, and since we really don't have any reason to hurry home, we might just take our time. Well, Tater has to get a tooth pulled when we get back. It doesn't hurt, the root is split, so it has to come out. Not fun, a good reason to take our time.

Turkeys in our campsite. They were frequent visitors in our loop. We saw them often throughout the campground while we were out riding in the golf cart.

Thanks for the trip report. I loved the photos of the turkeys walking through the campsite. Sorry to hear about the bad tooth that has to come out. I have an inane fear of dentists.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, worn out, and screaming, “WOO HOO, what a ride!”
