winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
What is the best option for storing the trailer over the cold winter. Should I leave the vent open or closed? I have maxx Air vent covers and am wondering what is best for humidity in the trailer.

Re: winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
I have maxx air vent covers but still prefer to completely close up the RV, including the vents, to prevent moisture.
As long as you're not using the RV: running the furnace, cooking, etc., having a vent open or a window cracked during cold winter months shouldn't be necessary.
At least that's the way it plays out in my neck of the woods. Maybe it's different other places, but in Nebraska, we have dry-cold winters.

I always leave my vents open, summer and winter, when we're not using it.

Last winter my BIL left his open and will never do it again. He is no where near a dirt road, yet the interior was covered with dust.

We always leave all 3 of ours open about an inch with maxair covers. We also put a couple of dry z air's in and everything always smeels like new in the spring.

Re: winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
Interesting! I have had travel trailers before and have always kept my vents closed. That's because I never had the vent covers. I didn't have any issues that I can remember. Just thought about the vent covers and wondered what is best. Thanks for all the responses. This forum is GREAT! Would be nice to have a get together for all the forum/wildcat users.

I do the same thing. All 3 are open all year long.

Re: winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
We leave the vent over the toilet slightly open year round. Our temperatures fluctuate quite a bit here. For instance, yesterday it got up to about 76, and this morning it was 30. Tomorrow is expected to be colder, then it will start warming up and get back in the 70's. We figure it can't hurt to have it open, and it helps keep out the condesation.

I left mine cracked open a little last year but not again that snow always seems to find a way in to the cat. I had my own little snow drift inside. I keep them closed

We had the vent over the bedroom open during the first winter we had the 'Cat. That year we had to have the trailer in storage. We got a big snow (Tulsa), and when the snow melted, some came in and got the mattress wet. Now we just open the one in the bathroom. I guess we should have put a piece of plastic over the mattress.

Re: winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
On my Cat, all 3 of the vents are covered. I've not had an issue with water intrusion from any of the vents, at least that I know of. I think leaving the vents open, it helps keep the camper from smelling musty.
Just my $.02 worth.

Re: winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
I usually leave mine cracked open just a bit since we have fluctuations in temp. Now I may be nuts but I have seen some people leave some charcoal in a bowl in the trailer while in storage to help absorb some odor.I tried it and it seems to work.

Charcoal does absorb odors. I've read you can use "activated charcoal" or the stuff you grill with - just be sure you don't get the fast lighting charcoal that has lighter fluid in it.
Baking soda absorbs odors, too, and two or three boxes located throughout the trailer might do some good. When you open the trailer again, just pour the baking soda down the drains to freshen them, also.
We don't use anything, and so far haven't had any problems with odor.

I could not agree with you more. We live here in Vancouver B.C. and leave the vents open 3" all year round.

We do the same, leave the covered vents open all year. I have never noticed a musty or damp/dank smell, even in the rainy part of the spring.

Re: winter storage/vent open or closed with max air cover
The only time we had a problem with the open vents was the first winter we had the 'Cat. The trees on our lot in Tulsa were in the way of putting her in our yard, so she had to go to a storaqe lot. We had a freezing rain, followed by snow. The buildup on the roof was pretty deep, and when it melted, and the way it melted, some water got inside on our mattress. It was just a small wet spot.
That won't stop us from keeping the vents open, we'll just put a sheet of plastic over the mattress.

We had (2) 6" snow occurrences last spring and did not have a problem with melt dripping in the camper. I guess we were lucky on that one.
