Traveling computer printer

Post by robertz675 on 12/1/2008, 7:34 am

We have been wondering if anyone carries a small printer with them to use with a laptop while traveling. It sure seems like it would come in hand to print directions and such while you are traveling.

Yes I do. Not sure what the model number is but it's a small Lexmark. Biggest problem is it gets used so little that the ink cartridges dry out.

That is why I was thinking about a small laser printer.

We have a printer/scanner/copier for the trailer. We got the same model that we have in the house, so we can use the ink cartridges in both. It fits nicely in the storage space we built into the entertainment center.

HP - vivera - it has one black ink cartridge and one color ink cartridge.

We carry a Canon IP4300 and put it under the shelf that I put in in the entertainment center to raise the TV up higher.

Its nice to have with us, but I have to admit, we rarely use it.

Yes, Canon IP90. Very compact. I keep the printer, some paper, extra cartridges and cords in a plastic carrying case about 18"x18"x4". Never had a problem with the cartridges even though I leave it in the company truck year round through temp extremes. Probably only use it every other month. If you can find a small laser, that would be better.

I found and bought this printer. Very small and doesn't take any ink, toner or ribbons but you do have to use special paper. I actually bought one of these units from the same guy and it works great. I wanted it for my truck for my mobile office. Only problem was it can't connect to my laptop and I had to get an adapter cord but I tried it with the desktop and it works flawlessly.

Is that the thermal paper that fades and is kind of brittle? Years ago (I'm talking dark ages), when I was a secretary in a school, we used "Thermofax" copiers. The paper was light brown, thin and brittle, and after a while the print would just "fade." We had a small calculator at home - that paper was white, not quite as brittle, and it also faded after awhile. The Thermofax didn't copy in color, but it would have made a usable map.

I hope the newer stuff is better.

It is a thermal printer. The paper is not brittle but thinner than normal notebook paper. The Pentax thermal paper is guaranteed to last for 7 years or longer if stored in a temperature and humidity controlled environment such as your home.

We've got an HP something or other that we bought at Wal*Mart last year before we set up the Cat in NC. It sits in the cubby underneath the TV. Before leaving the Cat in storage at the KOA we removed the cartridges. They usually don't dry out, because we use the printer in the Cat when we're in residence there, as much as the one in our home.
