Electric fireplace
Ok, here's an idea, tell me what you think folks.... I have a 07 32QBBS and under the TV entertainment center to the left of the concertpain system are 4 storage drawers that I don't use. With the electric outlets in the VCR storage shelve area I was thinking of taking out the drawers and modifiying a "box" to put an electric fireplace for looks and heat. I found one small electric fireplace that pulls 120 volt 15 amps, that shouldn't be too much to run on AC power right??
Has anyone done this or am I going to be the sacraficial lamb and try it first??? I always seen the installed factory ones on the more expensive rigs and my DW just thinks its the neatest thing since sliced bread (ok I do too).
Thanks,
Eric

I have a DVD of two hour recording of a fire in a fire place (for Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years. I recommend just showing it on the TV and save your money.

Re: Electric fireplace
I was thinking the same thing on our 2008, but I was thinking of doing it in the area where the little cubby hole is, under the shower to the left of the stairs to the bunks.
It just goes into the storage basement there anyway.....
Maybe you have the 1/2 bath option, since I don't have 4 drawers near the entertainment center.

Re: Electric fireplace
Eric, whatever you prefer, you should do. I like the looks of the fireplaces. I've also read (on another forum) where someone took out their fireplace to add more storage.
Pickle, we have a fireplace DVD, too. It's neat.
Mike, that was my reaction exactly. I can't imagine having unused storage space. In fact, Scruffy and I are always trying to make more.

I like the idea of to the left of the stairs in that cuddy, not only for looks, but you can get ones that actually put out heat too, thus saving propane if we're hooked up too shore power. We don't have the half bath option, I wonder if in 2008 they changed something under the entertainment center? Anyhow, if I end up doing it, I'll post some pictures for you all!!
Thanks,
Eric

Re: Electric fireplace
I am another member that was thinking the same thing. Wow, great minds think alike!
Anyway, I have the 07 32QBBS with the 1/2 bath option, my wife purchased the heater and it puts out great heat and is supposed to use low current. I was also thinking of to the left of the stairs but since I already have the heater I am going to have to do some measuring to make sure it will fit. I have to get it out of the house because DW has it sitting near the thermostat & when she runs it the heat stays near the thermostat and the rest of the house gets cold.

Re: Electric fireplace
Hello everyone, I installed a electric fireplace in my 07 31QB just under the TV, My wife loves it, and I like the fact that we don't get cooked out when the furnace comes on, and we save LPG, and it is so cozy when were watching tv, and in the morning when were having coffee, I am a hobby woodworker so it was pretty easy. I cannot figure out how to add pictures to the forum or I would post a photo. I have dial-up to which doesn't help but I visit the forum often

Rick, It has been a long while since I have been on this site so I can't remember to do the pictures (hopefully someone will chime in with the instructions). When you do figure it out please post some pictures, I would really like to see it.
I measured my area last night and my fireplace will fit. Lowes carries the paper wrapped shelving board that matches the camper so I am going to try to match the wood up with that. I am looking forward to getting started on this project. You brought up a good point regarding saving LPG. These units put out good heat and while you are at a campground in the winter you are not using your LPG which costs extra $.

Re: Electric fireplace
Rick,
The fireplace looks great! Makes me wish we had room for one. We have a nice ceramic heater that we use instead of the furnace, but it has to sit on the floor, and we have to be careful we don't trip over it.

Electric Fireplace
Hello 3 little coasties, I used white ash for the wood, and minwax polyshades classic oak satin 370 for the finish, it is pretty close to the accent wood on the slide face molding, and go's on in 2 or 3 coats. I wish it was camping season around here, I think its going to be a long winter...

Re: Electric fireplace
Hello TC, I found my fireplace at Rona, (which is pretty close to a Lowes or Home Depot) I was looking at Home Depot in Sandusky Ohio, and they pretty much had the same thing available. It really works good and it has a thermostat so you can set it, and the flame is also adjustable, I was really surprized at how far they have come in the last 10 years or so. I pretty much measured my available space behind the LP detector and the width and height and found one that would fit, and I moved the LP detector to the left, My next project is probably the carpeted step to the upstairs, I am going to make it out of ash with 45 degree corners so the carpet doesn't catch it when the slide is in...Rick

Post is a few years old. I too was anxious to see the pics but lead to disappointment. Oh well, time to keep looking.

Re: Electric fireplace
We have a DVD.... it just doesn't put out any heat, and we have to choose between fireplace, or movie, or TV show. I was thinking of putting our old flatscreen TV on the floor, making a "box" to go around it that looked like a fireplace. We have the DVD player in the Concertone and another DVD player on the shelf in the Entertainment Center. The fireplace DVD would play out of one, and the wall-mount TV to the other. Even though it wouldn't put off any heat, I thought the idea was brilliant!
Scruffy nixed it. :-(
Just wish we had room for a fireplace, and we might. We'd have to remove a panel and see what's behind it. I have doubts that the 29rlbs would have enough space.
$700? I think I saw them for less, but that was a couple years ago when prices were lower on everything.
I seem to remember that Rick's pictures were only of the finished product. I know I copied and pasted them into a file, if I find time, maybe I'll remember to try to find them. No step-by-step photos/instructions.

Go to Northern Tool website ( http://www.northerntool.com ). Do a search on electric fireplace. They have several to choose from that should work for an rv application.
