Leaking Slide-out Pump

Leaking Slide-out Pump
I have a leaking o-ring on the slide out pump. I contacted Lippert and they told me that the pump is discontinued and they don't have parts. Being the second owner, they won't honor the warranty. It has the octagonal (actually has more than 8 sides) shaped reservoir. Does anyone know the model number of the pump or the size and shape of the o-ring? I can't find the model # on the unit. I'd like to purchase the o-ring prior to taking it apart as I don't have a place to work on it with the slide-out in the out position and don't want to get stuck with the pump dissassembled and not be able to get the part. The Lippert rep suggested that I remove the o-ring and coat it with silicone and put it back in. I think that replacing the ring would be better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you had to, you could take it apart and take the old O-ring and match it up at an auto parts store or a place that deals with hyd stuff. If it's not huge, probably an auto parts store. Don't forget farm tractor dealers as well for bigger O-rings.

Thanks for the suggestion. Farm tractor supplies is a good idea and we have several in the area.

I have developed the same problem. The tank is held on by 4 sheet metal screws. I tried snugging them up, but the leak persisted. Is there anything else holding the tank to the pump body? It looks like a messy ordeal to remove the tank.

Re: Leaking Slide-out Pump
I successfully fixed mine by removing the pump and getting a new o-ring at the tractor/hydraulic repair and supply shop. After I removed the old one. I took it to the store. I used a hand pump for removing the fluid and used a towel under to collect dripping fluid when I removed it. I wiped off the area where the ring goes as well as where the reservoir seals against the pump. I put the o-ring in and replaced it. Filled the reservoir up with fresh fluid, purchased from the auto parts store and it worked. Lippert said that there was no need to prime or bleed the lines. Also, I didn't use Permatex like they suggested because it would be too hard to remove at a later time if this didn't work.

Re: Leaking Slide-out Pump
lakejumper: did you get a special o-ring for hydralics and what did you refill with. i see the manuel says to use dextron lll atf fluid. i have the same problem and made a post before i searched the forum. i have the same trailer and was told they could not get the parts from lippert, that lippert recommends a new unit to the tune of about $500. im headed to the oil field supply store this morning as they deal in seals and hydralics. also i was wondering if i needed to put something on to seal where the resevoir bolts the the pump. since you didnt put anthing on it is is still working with out leaking.

I just rubbed some of the fluid onto the o-ring. Yes, it stopped the leak and was an easy job once I got the reservoir empty using the hand pump that I purchased from the auto parts store. I have an extra o-ring that I'll be happy to mail to you if you'd like it. There is no need to bleed the lines once you refill the reservoir.

lakejumper: thanks for the offer of the o-ring. i went to the bearing-hydraulic store and got a new o-ring . i installed it and i did put a small bead of permatex on it. lippert told me to use dexron lll instead of 10w hydraulic fluid. looks like everything is working ok now. thanks again.

Re: Leaking Slide-out Pump
This has been an absolute nightmare for me! I reassembled with original O-ring, no leak then after using it a couple times the leak reappeared. I replaced the leaky O-ring and same thing. Beginning of this year I took it apart again, took the ring to a shop nearby that makes O-rings. They made one for me with a slightly larger diameter. That was a good idea until I tried to reassemble. I couldn't get the reservoir on. It was then I called Lippert and they told me to put permatex on the O-ring. I googled this and found that permatex makes an aviation permatex that is for hydraulics and O-rings (stays flexible). Same thing happened, didn't leak when I refilled the reservoir, I ran it in and out several times. Checked it before leaving on our last trip and all was good. I opened the door while camping and looked and leak is back again! So frustrating. I guess I'm going to do it again!

I'm new on the forum. I have been having this same problem. Didn't think to use the permatex though, I'll have to try that.

I have 1 question have you checked the vent on the fill cap to the reservoir to make sure it is not plugged and causing pressure to build in tank.

Welcome to the forum cumminswildcat.
I just discovered the same thing, haven't done any investigation, yet. It's a very small leak. I put a little more tension on the bolts for now and place a rag underneath the pump. Will check in a few days again and will take the pump appart if necessay.

First thing I checked. The leak definately comes out of the seam between the reservoir and the aluminum pump. From what I can see I'm guessing it to be an issue with the weight of the oil in the reservoir. When I put it together the last time I put a cookie tray between the mounting bracket and the pump. I cut a piece of styrofoam and put it under the reservoir to support it. All in all, I don't know what has fixed it, the seal made good contact (I really cleaned the surface well to be sure). The support under the reservoir might be a factor also. My thought was the cookie tray would catch any small leak as my battery box is right below the pump. So far, no leak at all. It sat all winter and I'm taking it out again this weekend. I'll shoot a photo and post it along with an update. Happy New Camp Year to you all!

Cracked Reservoir on Pump
I have been experiencing the same leak at the pump tried the reseal with the permatex sealer still had leak, removed the assembly and found a crack in the reservoir itself. I am in need of a new one, has anyone had this same concern and if so were you able to find a replacement reservoir?

You probably need to contact Lippert to get a replacement.
