Opinions on size hitch
Hi Everyone,
I have recently sold my motorhome, and purchased my tow vehicle (2008 Chevy 3500 SRW D/A LWB). We know which cat we want (28rkbs), but we want to wait till late winter/early spring to buy. I have been looking at hitches and would like to get opinions on the Pullrite 16k Super Fifth. Do you think this is enough/too much hitch? I have no idea, since I have not owned a Fifth wheel before.
Thanks
Jim

That hitch should work fine for that trailer.
I have the Reese 16k slider for our fiver and it works good.

First off...Welcome to the group! We're glad your here.
We have the same fiver you do and I have an 18K Reese slider. It it way more than I need. The one your looking at is a fine hitch, it is also more than you need. Having said that, there really is no such thing as too much hitch. Just one more thing I don't have to worry about.

Re: Opinions on size hitch
That is something that I wished I would have looked into more when we purchased our 5ver. I went with the rcommendation of the RV dealer and ended up with a hitch that is pretty much a throw away and wore out after 3 seasons (reese 15k pro). If I had to do it again, I would probably go with the B & W companion hitch.
I also have a long box, so a slide is not necessary in our case. I am assuming that by listing LWB (long wheel base) you have an 8ft bed pn your Chevy.
just my 2 cents......

We also have the Reese 16K hitch and also the bed saver. Picture below. If the 5th wheel ever comes loose from the hitch, the bed saver will save you about $10,000 in repair costs on a new truck.

Thanks for the responses, and yes, I do have a long bed truck so the slider won't be needed. Maxter, I like the idea of the bed saver, but it seems like a lot of weight would be dumped on what appears to be four bolts (from what I see in the picture). Again thanks and you will will be getting more questions from me as I get closer to buying.

Re: Opinions on size hitch
I have a 15k RBW. I've used it for over 8 years now with no problems. It's simple, no jaws (has one piece steel bar that locks in hitch pin).
I've watch my brother drop his trailer on the top of his bed when he thought the jaws were closed. My father-in-law fights the jaws almost everytime he hitches. I like the security knowing the hitch is locked and loading when the hitch pin slides in.

I have the Pullrite 16k Super Fifth also, that is fine for your truck also. I am pulling a Wildcat 32qbbs and there is no problem.

I have the B&W turnover ball with the Companion fifth wheel and I'm very pleased with . I pull gooseneck trailers alot so thats a plus for me. The companion setup just seems to have a sturdy look and feel to me. Check it out : http://www.turnoverball.com/rv.asp#

No doubt, that looks like a very good hitch. I think it is a bit overkill for my situation (also more than I want to spend). I can't wait to order my cat in a couple months. It is a very odd feeling not having a camper in my yard right now.
