Water Pump Problem
Hello,
I recently filled my fresh water tank then tried to run the water pump. The pump would run but would not draw any water. I unhooked the inlet water hose and placed into a bucke of water and it would draw it out of there.
ANy thoughts of what to check?

Re: Water Pump Problem
If there is air in the system it will not draw correctly. Trying to prime the pump from an empty draw line can take a lot of time (a few minutes of running the pump) under some circumstances.
Also, it takes time to fill the HW heater, etc. and the air pressure can be great to overcome. I would turn on a hot and cold water outlet while running the pump to help it push out the air as it attempts to prime.
There are check valves in the system that could be sticking until they are filled with water.

Re: Water Pump Problem
My hot water heater has a bypass valve at the front if it.
What Cooksville says is very true, turn the bypass valve and see it you get water faster.

Re: Water Pump Problem
we use the freshwater tank pretty frequently thru the summer and about every other trip out I have this happen. What I usually do is turn on the pump, go outside and put a rag under the oulet of the pump and loosen where the hose is attached to the pump discharge untill water comes out. Once water is coming out I tighten it and it is all set. You can watch it fill the water filter and hear it build up pressure in the system.

Re: Water Pump Problem
Try opening up a faucet inside. I had the same problem this last summer and that was the cure.

Re: Water Pump Problem
Odd that it would draw out of the bucket. I guess because it wasn't having to pull the water as far?

Re: Water Pump Problem
Thats all I can figure. Had very little vacuum pressure. I guess it would only draw from bucket since water was available at the pump.
