Hanging "stuff" on the walls??

Post by Schleprock on 8/28/2008, 8:33 am

Just got back from a week at the beach last Saturday with the family and the Cat. On the trip we made some serious notes on mods that absolutely have to be done.
Switch covers (18m old LOVES switches!)
Key hooks
Additional shelving
new "pull out" sprayer style Faucet in kitchen (my idea since I was stuck doing dishes most of the time)
and the list goes on....

What I need to know is what type of anchors do I need to use in the walls?
How do you find electrical / water lines in walls since the wall is a thin panel type board and stud finders go bezerk when used? (I don't want to nail or screw through electrical or water)

Picture hangers aren't really the concern its the screws / lag bolts that I may have to use to anchor shelves and things that will support some weight bouncing down the road.

Next on the list of ??'s
Has anyone installed a sprayer type faucet in the kitchen? Even adding one of those vegetable sprayers like we all have in the house.

I did come across a thread about the switch covers and already picked them up from Lowes. Just need time to install.
thanks for any and all info!

I installed a sprayer faucet in my last trailer. Got it from Lowes. It worked out so well I really wish the Wildcat had one. It was especially fun to squirt water through the window over the sink when someone walked by.

I use molly anchors for the walls when i can't hit a stud. They make then for walls that are as thin as the Wildcat walls. So far they are holding up the towel racks in the bathroom. Nice and sturdy.

I'm not using frames - got to conserve on weight somewhere!

I just framed my pics with mats, and used double sided foam tape to attach to the wall. The tape is close enough to the edge to cut through with a knife if I want to remove any of the pics, but far enough from the edge that they don't show too much. If we remove them, and there is sticky stuff on the walls, it will remove easily with WD-40. Did you know that? WD-40 removes sticky stuff - price tags off of plates and glassware, sticky tape on walls, sticky remains from duct tape, all sorts of sticky stuff. Scruffy told me that - maybe he saw it here?

Oh - if I ever decide I need a wood frame, we'll just glue half-round on the mats. :)

Bryan,

The "skin" on our Cats is a sandwich. The meat is about 2" of foam and the bread is two slices of 1/4" luan. The outside has the fiberglass skin over that and the inside has wallpaper on it.

I have successfully used various length #8 wallboard screws to attach most of the stuff that I've hung. There are two clothing racks (one in the livingroom and one in the bedroom) and a cleat that holds up one end of my computer desk in the living/dining slide. The other cleat is attached to the table and the desk top sits on the two cleats. I published a picture of that awhile ago.

To my knowledge there are no pipes in the exterior walls of a 28RLBS. They all appear to be inside. The one exception may be the hot/cold shower lines, but I'm not sure. The toilet line comes up from the basement, the sink line comes up from the basement and the kitchen lines travel through the hotwater heater compartment, through the furnace compartment, behind the stove and into the under sink area. The line for the onboard water tank is under the floor.

The only thing to be careful of would be the 12VDC electric lines to the ceiling lights and the lights under the overhead compartments. It would be nice to have the factory scematics for those.

I've used the typical small nails/screws with picture hanger. Then I put Velcro on the bottom two corners. This keeps the pictures from swinging plus helps hold it to the wall. Four years and all is good.

Welcome to the forum rlutin. If there are no electric wires in the walls, how does WC get power to the A/C, lights, fans, light switches, etc.? I/m confused.

Jamesb,
I think he means no wires or water lines traveling through exterior walls.

Yes, they do travel through interior walls, ceiling and under the floor.

My 32QBBS has an electrical outlet in the rear bedroom that is on the rear wall.

I assume it runs up the inside of the wall from the floor area.

the 32 qbbs will have a recept (looking at rear wall from inside unit) on the left which should loop 6" from the bottom then go About 6" to the right.then the line goes straight up into the roof.

Hanging and holding items in the Cat

Post by f150k on 1/12/2010, 8:00 am

We take a lot of photos on our trips and like to display them in our Wildcat. Here is what I have done, first we have our photos reproduced on vinyl, ( the type sign companies use, our son has a sign shop that helps ) They are printed on a mat finish, are not subject to moisture, are light weight, and can be wiped of with a soft damp cloth.

Light weight metal frame, 3M Micro hooks, removable mounting putty and a metal frame hanger

After I mount the vinyl photo on some foam core, I make a frame, center the metal hanger on the back, mount the 3M micro hooks on wall, ( they can be removed ) hang the picture, roll up a little mounting putty for each bottom conner and press to the wall. I have also used the mounting putty to hold other items such as antiques and picture in place on shelves. Everything has stayed just fine over a lot of miles, below are some examples.

This is one that we got at Lowes as a closeout.

It was simple. The hardest thing was trying to get under the sink.
