bad odor in the cabinet under the kitchen sink
I'm getting a bad odor in the cabinet under the kitchen sink. I think it could be gas from the galley tank. I have found a fitting called a "Pro-vent" installed in my plumbing between the sink trap and the galley tank. I'm guessing that it was designed to allow air in the line so water would drain more smoothly from the sink. Has anyone had problems with this fitting?

Unscrew it and test it for proper operation, then reattach.

oldsilver,
to the forum. I hope all of your questions are answered. One nice thing to do is fill out your signature and let us know what type of Cat you have and type of tow vehicle. It will help us help you!
I have had the same problem with the smell under the sink. Follow Pickles advice. If you read the post that Scottz pointed, many have said to place gray water deodorizers in the tank. That will help.
Good luck and don't forget to share you camping adventures and pictures with us.

When I get ready to travel I use ammonia with a couple of gals of water for the gray tank. This seems to help with the odor and helps clean the tank.

Thanks for the replies.
I took the "Pro-Vent" apart and is seems to work okay. It has a flimsy rubber disk that is suppose to seal the drain pipe when not in use, but the fact that I get a bad odor tells me that it doesn't do a very good job.
I have been using deodorizers in my tank but this only covers up the problem. I guess fixing the problem would require running pipe or tubing to vent the pipe to the outside.
When I get the time I'm going to find the best way to vent the drain pipe to the outside.

Keep us informed if you are able to move the vent outside. Sounds like a plan, I'm just not sure how I would do it as my kitchen sink is on the awning side of the camper.

Re: bad odor in the cabinet under the kitchen sink
I have been using the geo method for the past couple of trips and have not had any problems with odors since. We just returned from an 8 day trip and everything was odor free.
