Squeaky Brakes and more babbling
Hi Guys. Just got home from towing my cat 3000 Km thro Jasper and BC and all went well. The 16in made in China tires even help together.
Anyways I have a couple questions.. The Brakes on my 2007 29rlbs Squeal so bad when braking its embarrasing to have to put the brakes on in a campground,, they dont squeal abit, they are LOUD, heads turn to see where the awful noise is coming from.. So any thoughts on that?
Second Im not sure if my WFCO 8955 converter is toast or not,, everyday I charged up my batteries for a 2 or 3 or 4 or5 hours
with my honda 2000 watt gen and and every morning they were at the 11.7 volt range,, Not very good for 2 group 27 deep cycle batteries that are only 14 months old, they might be on their way out,, we watch a movie some nights and the voltage will drop but some nights we dont and the voltage is close to the same 11.7 by morning,, Maybe the converter isnt charging them enough?
I have a volt minder on the cat and when charging the meter voltage climbs up slowly as they charge. it starts at what ever the voltage was and climbs up to about 13.5 volts with the generator running, and drops down to the 12.5 or 12.6 range shortly after the generator is shut off, the furnace at night came on a few times but not for long but I wouldnt think the batteries would be that low by morning.. 12.06 volts is at 50% charge according to the article called.. The 12 Volt Side of life.. Its worth reading for anyone interested, just do a search from goggle and it pops up and is in 2 parts.. So my batteries could be shot. maybe the
converter did them in or mabe not...
Next question Im thinking about getting a couple 80-120 watt solar panels to cut down up the generator run time to charge
has anyone here done that? and hows it working?..
Heres something off topic that ya might be interested in. I weighed my rig the other day..
I have an 2006 GMC 2500HD standard/short box 4x4 with the duramax diesel and alison tranny.
I had the tralier loaded for camping but only had about 15 gallons of fresh water left. the black and grey tanks were empty, the trailer had food,BBQ and all the normal camping stuff in it,, It weighed 8140 Pounds NOT including what the pin weight was..The rear axle of the trailer had about 350 pounds more on it than the front. So for a 5th wheel that has a listed dry pin weight of 1330lbs it can climb up to close too 2000 lbs in a hurry,,It did have a pin weight of 1620 lbs when I bought with the propane tanks full and only 1 battery.
The truck with me in it(160lbs) 3/4 of a tank of fuel. an aluminum tool chest in the back with the honda generator in it and a few tools. 2 Kayaks on the roof of the truck. The rack system weight with the 2 kayaks is about 120 lbs. and maybe 100 pounds of firewood It weighed 9262 lbs.. So I was over weight by 62lbs.. The truck rides nice and the air bags keep it level or even up abit with 50 pounds of air..
So any thoughts on the noisey brakes? on the batteries? or converter? got a converter you want to sell? solar system?
Sorry but I keep thinking of more stuff to say haha , Hey the concertone dvd 5.1 sounds around system worked great :) but from what I have read it will be short lived..
If I could figure out how to post pictures I would put a few on here.
Thanks

Re: Squeaky Brakes and more babbling
Hello Dale M and
to the forum.
I guess your going to have to inspect your brakes to figure out why they are so noisy. Did you buy the camper new? How many miles are on it. Our 29RLBS has about 18K on it and my brakes are fine, just lucky I guess.
Have you checked your battery's water level?
I'm sure someone will chime in about the solar panels, yes, lots have done this mod.

Is there any chance you have the humidity reducer thing on for your fridge? It sucks a lot of current.

Update on batteries
Yes It turns out that little climate control switch by the frezzer was turned on. So I think that maybe/hopefully the battery issue will be cleared up. Next is the loud brakes.
Thank You

Re: Squeaky Brakes and more babbling
Brakes; sounds like they are dirty. Do a lot of travel on dirt roads? This can cause brakes to squeak. In any case, you need to pull the wheels for inspection.
Converter; hope the fridge switch helped. Based on the voltages you posted, I think your converter is working. I have two 105AH AGM batteries (about same as group 27). I can run at least three days, with moderate furnace use and watching a couple hours TV per night. Sounds like your batteries might be toast. I would see if the fridge switch helped and go from there. Plug the cat in at home, let the batteries charge really well for a day or so, then see how they hold up.
I have installed a 120W solar panel and absolutely love it. With reasonable use and good sunlight, I can go almost indefinitely. The only time I ever come close to discharging the batteries is when it is cold and I am using the furnace (we frequently camp in 30 degree weather). I am seriously considering permanently mounting an indoor approved catalytic heater, but that is a little off topic.

My RV repair place had mine to tight. Had to remove the drums, clean out the dust, ruff up the brake shoes with a wire brush, put them back on and no trouble. U get them to tight they get hot and glace.

Re: Squeaky Brakes and more babbling
My brakes have squeaked from day one. This was a brand new unit, took it back to the dealer to have it looked at and their was nothing wrong. They still make a heck of noise to date. And yes it sure is embarrasing and people turn and look cause it is LOUD.
All I can think of is maybe they were not broken in before delivery of the unit.

I had another problem. The brake controller was set to high. If I get my brake controlled to high I have one brake that lest me know real soon.
