Water Pump cycling

Post by Wildcat2k6 on 7/14/2008, 11:35 am

I have a 2006 Fr 5er and the water pump will come on for no reason and then go right off. I change the city water unit thinking the check valve was bad. I did check all the connections that I could see found one with a drip tightened it up but the pump is still cycling. Can any one give me a idea to where to look for the problem. Ford scratch

Stiner, go to your profile and under the signature tab include your camper model, year, etc........... That way someone will be able to give you better advice when they answer. I don't have any experience with that problem . someone should give you an answer on that shortly.

Check your hot water pressure relief valve. Sometimes it sticks which can cause a leak. You might want to check all faucets, shower, toilet, and outside shower if you have one. Another suggestion is to check your water connector caps (the ones that you use to add antifreeze to your lines). And finally check your water filter to be sure that it is sealed. Even if they don't leak water out, if the connections are not tight, they will allow air into the system and cause the pump to cycle. Hope this helps!

We also had this problem, pump would cycle for maybe a second every few minutes. I found loose connections at the water pump and on my model the connections were loose under the counter to the right of the sink, behind the water heater area. I'm not sure which one of these was the cause but we have not had anymore problems. By the way, we had no water leaks so i assume that air was being drawn into the system.

you basically have to trouble shoot. start with the simple explanations and go from there. our pump was doing the same, it could be many reasons why

I also had that issue. Found the connections at the pump were a little loose. Hand tightened them and problem was gone. Now every so often, I hand check the connections. They are a little loose sometimes.

I went through the whole camper and tightened all the connections and it still comes on about every 10 minuets for about 2 seconds.

I think it may be leaking backwards through the pump. The pump may be to blame. The pressure is dropping and that is what is making the pump go on. If there are no leaks foward of the pump, then the answer is that it is leaking backwards. If it is possible, change out pumps and test a different pump.

Yeah, most of the cycling is from a vacuum leak. It won't leak water, but it will draw in air and cause it to run every little bit. Try removing the inlet fitting and resealing it with teflon.

I did both inlet and outlet with Teflon, no Teflon was on there from the factory. It seems to have fix the problem no pump cycling as of today I did the work on Saturday morning. My wife will be happy that it won't go off in the middle of the night now. Thanks to all cheers sunny wavesmilys
