Underbelly ripped off

Post by love4God on 3/21/2012, 7:24 am

I was driving into a very strong headwind yesterday (heading from Carlsbad, NM to Albuquerque). In Roswell I stopped for gas and noticed that the black cardboard/plastic protective covering had half ripped off my 32QBBS. I guess the wind got into a crack and it was so strong it ripped it out. I cut the half off an zip tied the cut edge to the frame to keep the other half intact.

So what in the world is this stuff? Is this something I can pick up at Home Depot? Or is it RV specific and I have to get at Campingworld?

It doesn't look like any damage was done. I wire conduit was being pulled a bit but I cut it free and zip tied it up, doesn't look like it was damaged. I know I need it replace it to keep everything under there clean, but I don't think it's a stop my trip emergency. Just something I have to get fixed in the next week or two.

Anyone ever replace this stuff, is it easy enough for do it yourself? Or does anyone have an RV tech in Albuquerque they would rec'd?

Thanks

The sell shits of this to the sign makers that you see along side of the road. They are 4X8 ft. You can get it from the RV Dealer and it will cost a few $$.

Its called coroplast corrugated plastic.

Some of us have taken 1/2 inch metal conduit, flattened the ends, drilled holes in the ends and put this going across the underbelly to help hold the coroplast up so it doesn't sag.

Sure feels like cardboard to me, even though I know its not. Pretty flimsy stuff though. I have several places where its pulled away from the edges right where the screws hold em on. And sections are held together with nothing more than tape.

I'm not sure that link is to the same stuff. The stuff I pulled up is too rigid to roll into a roll like that. That stuff looks more flexible. Going to call a few RV parts places in Albuquerque where we're at for the week and see if anyone has some.

It doesn't look to hard to put in. The screws and washers are still there, i'll just take them out, hold the stuff up, screw it back in, then use a razor knife to cut around sewage pipes and stuff.

I bought mine through Forest River Parts Dept. I picked it up while I was in the Elkhart area so I didn't have to pay shipping and handling. I bought 20' of it and they cut it and rolled it up for me. I plan on using it to make access panels that can be removed to get into the underbelly instead of removing the OE one piece from front to back everytime.

A couple places I called have 4x8 sheets. Not sure if 96" is wide enough. I think so. So I may have to piece it back together. Probably lost about half of it, easily 4 sheets, maybe 5. I guess if I layer them with front piece overlapping piece behind it (kind of like flashing around a chimney or siding) I suppose it will work.

If I have to do it bye the sheet maybe I could put something more durable under there. I wonder if something like thin luan or something would work? A little more structure but a little more weight.

The factory tape started peeling off on several seams on the underbelly of my new WC. Dealer retaped those areas with tape from FR and it worked, sort of and for a short while. Thought I would do a temporary repair with Gorilla Tape to keep the critters out. Gorilla Tape is still holding and sure looks to be a permanent solution.
