Is it plugged into a 20 amp or 30 amp service?

May have been a spike or intermittent service.

Try disconnecting the shore power and flip the breaker off for about 3-5 minutes.

Some units shut down after having power flicker three times in a row and need to be reset.

Could something have blown into the unit from the storm that is causing the fan to stall??

Take the shroud off on top. Spin the fan some to get it unfrozen. Then have DW turn on the fan only (not the AC) If fan is row running then slide AC switch on. The fans get "frozen" after sitting a while.

Did you try taking the cover off from the inside of the camper and reach up to move the can-shaped fan?

OK 24 HRS LATER.... TORE THE WHOLE THING APART. JEEEEEZ ONLY TOOK ABOUT 6 HRS. TO GET THE BLOWER MOTOR OUT SO NOW WHAT. IT LOOKS GOOD BUT IT IS 140 DEGREES HERE IN TEXAS. HELP. HOW TO TEST IT WITHOUT JOLTING 220 IN MY BOILING BLOOD? NEED SOME SAFE ADVICE. AND BY THE WAY THE HIGH VOLTAGE WIRES ARE TAPED RIGHT ABOVE THE FAN EXAUST FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH OLDER CATS. MIGHT WANNA KEEP A EYE ON EM .4 SCREWS FOM THE INSIDE REMOVES THE EXAUST AND THEY ARE IN THE SILVER BOX HOPEFULLY STILL TAPED. EASY FIX.

Re: air conditioner problem

Post by 10-36 on 5/16/2011, 12:17 pm

Just tried to use my Dometic Duo-Therm air conditioner this weekend. Condenser comes on but blower fan doesn't budge. I took the top shroud off and tried to spin the fan manually. It feels frozen. Time to tinker a bit before our next 23 night road trip to the Gulf of Mexico. I might need my A/C for that trip.

Any thoughts to help me get this fixed?

Motor bushings and or bearings can get tight when out of service. Normally once you get it moving and run it they free up. Sometimes you have to replace the motor. Most are sealed motors and can't be fixed. If it's not sealed, you can pull it apart and clean the shafts and lube the bushings/bearings.

240 volts?? I hope you're not plugged into a 240 volt welder outlet as the trailer is 120 volt 30 amp service.

Our fan shaft gets stuck all the time when not being used for a while (over a month). I usually take off the A/C shroud and and give it a little spin.

Some WD 40 on the fan should help but as Earl said I would pull it a part for cleaning and inspection. Possible there could be a bad spot on the armature.

Yes Portagie it is raining here and it sucks. We huddled in the trailer all weekend on a short trip. Couldn't even get down to the river to swim. Good thing I got last years roof leak fixed thanks to all the help on this website.

As soon as it clears up I'm gonna tear into the A/C and figure out why the fan blower won't run.

So keep all the suggestions coming!
