A Few Suggestions Needed?

Post by jsk on 1/10/2012, 2:48 pm

Any suggestions are appreciated on the following questions:
1) What are some other reliable tire monitoring systems? I like the one by TST.
2) For those of you with diesels, what gauge monitoring system do you suggest? I like the ScanGaugeII and the Edge. I do not want to tune - just monitor and read codes. The truck is a 2008 F250.
3) If you have electric rear stabilizers, how do you know how much presssure you are putting on the jacks? I usually put mine down until I see the back end just start to come up. I would put more pressure on the system if I knew how close I was to hitting the 400 lb. max.
Thanks for the replies. We are looking to take a trip in 2 weeks while the kids have an extra long weekend - only problem is we are not sure where we want to go.

I have a 2008 F350 with the 6.4 like you.

I had the Edge Insight, hated their customer service and sent it back. It was a good idea, just that it could not monitor everything that they said it could. This was two or three years ago.

I'm considering the ScanGaugeII too but I'd like to see one in operation before I shell out the $.

There has been a rousing debate on TurboDieselRegister.com over the Edge Insight. According to Edge, it cannot in any way "tune" the engine. It only plugs into the OBD2 port and reads most of the data available from the ECM. There are some items like EGT and Boost Pressure that the user needs to install his own sensors.

One luckless Dodge owner brought his truck into the dealer for some service and the stealership decided that the Insight was a "tuner" and turned him down for a warrantee repair. They also reported him to Chrysler and were trying to have the warrantee on the truck revoked.

Evidently, no amount of reasoning with the dealer would work, so the owner and dealer are at an impass.

Of course it's not a tuner, unless your the stealer and got the power.

Forwarned is forarmed.

As far as the rear stabilizers, I do pretty much the same as you except I keep going until the motor starts to strain a little. Is that to much? I don't know, but it stabilizes the camper very nicely.

If you stay somewhere for longer than a week, and your site is not paved (concrete or macadam) expect to adjust the rear stabilizers at least once during the first week and about every 10 -15 days thereafter. The weight of the Cat will cause whatever the stabs are resting on to settle into the ground and loosen up the support. For us it was quite noticeable after 10 days on a gravel site. Course we were mosttiming at the time.

1. Don't know about these...haven't got that far yet.
2. I have an Edge Insight (the older gray style). It monitored everything I wanted it to. No separate EGT installation (as mentioned by shrowang)...it does it by default. Also tells you when you go into regen, and will blink at you (by default setting) through the regen cycle. It's for sale...if you're interested PM me (it won't work in my 2011).
3. I do pretty much the same as you...hit the ground, hold the button for a second or so more. Just enough to get it "firm".
