Tops of slides

Post by mga60tw on 12/28/2011, 12:07 pm

besides making sure all the caulking is looking good is there anything else you should do to the tops of the slides? I thought maybe something like a black roof sealer(for shingled roofs), would help preserve the top from all the sun, rain etc hitting it. Any ideas? I don't have the covers over the slide outs.

I don't do anything to the slide, only have one, except sweep the crude, leaves/twigs/branches, off of it in the fall before I run it in for the tow home.

My thinking is that the less I'm up on the roof the less chance there is of me tearing it. It's ugly, it's stained, it's not pretty, it's not washed, and it doesn't leak. I'm not to concerned about how it looks in satellite photos.

P.S. The local RV, independent, fixit guy here in Arizona agrees, stay off and leave them alone. YMMV. Wink

Seeing that you are from Florida, I sure wouldn't put anything black on the roof. The heat would be brutal. Plus, depending on the material used, it could get soft in the sun and make a mess when the slide is brought in.

Just wash it couple times a year and check the sealer couple times a year. I wouldn't put anything on it. The wrong stuff will ruin it and/or cause the glue to release! Than you'll have huge bubbles and will probably rip when the slide comes in and out.

The slide out roofs are the same rubber as the main roof. Since they are closed while not in use they will out last the main roof.

Thanks for the info. I really never heard of anyone doing anything to the top of the slide but wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something.

Having a slide topper and due to the fact that the slide stays in most of the time, I don't do anything to the top of the slide either.
