Day 300 of being on the road with the WILDCAT!!!

Post by mga60tw on 12/28/2011, 3:16 am

Today 12/28 is our 300th day of being on the road with the WILDCAT. We left Florida last March and have been to Alaska and made it back to Birmingham, AL so far. We should be back to our condo in Port Orange, Florida around 1/6/2012.
We have put over 24,000 miles on the 2007 Duramax which has performed flawlessly. What a truck!!
What can I say about our WILDCAT(2006 RLBS) that has been pulled over 16,000 miles? It has been fantastic!! The unit has performed with no problems other than the slide needing adjustment and the hot water heater making a noise(but it works very good). The tires(Maxxis) have worn perfectly and still look very good. This is one tough camper!! I am very impressed at how well everything has worked. I don't have anything bad to say about this great camper.
After so many days together with the wife, we still Love each other:) My wife is the best and is a great traveler. What a great trip to Alaska we have had! Almost don't want this chapter in our lives to end, but we are looking forward to our next one.
I posted this before but I think it needs to been done one more time....

Do not put off living the life you dream of. Next year may never come. If we are always waiting for something to change ... retirement, the kids to leave home, the weather or the economy, that's not living. That's waiting! Waiting will only leave us with unrealized dreams and empty wishes.

Tom and Suzanne

Sounds like you've had a fantastic trip. I guess all good things have to come to an end. So, what's next? Have you started planning the next one?

What did you do about your mail while you were traveling? We always have the PO hold our mail that comes to our home, and our daughter empties our PO box once a week (she lives too far away to be making a trip to our house every day). But the hold mail service is limited to 30 days, and our next trip (starting in about 2 weeks) might go over 30 days. Scruffy is going to see what the PO can do for us with an extension, or getting our home mail forwarded to our PO box if that is possible. Most of our stuff is addressed to the PO box, but now and then somebody sends stuff to our home. Anyway, we're really interested in what you do about mail. (Most of our bills are paid electronically automatically, and we have a couple that we can pay on-line - but they don't have an automatic option.)

Comments from anyone who travels a lot will be appreciated.

Tater

Glad to see you had such a great time with your trip. I'm also glad to hear that your truck and wildcat performed perfectly.
I am so happy for you both and Greenwithenvy !!!!
You could probably write a book, just on your experience with this trip....

Our mail was forwarded to my father in law. 99% is junk and the other he would contact us and tell us what we needed to know. But that has only happened 2 or 3 times since we left. Our few bills are all electronic and email, so no problems.
I thought they would only forward our mail for 3 to 6 months but it has been 10 months and they are still forwarding it.
We are try to go maillessnes:)) really don't care if i ever get any mail again:)) I will do my part to save the post office, they can deliver my mail once a month if they want to:)

Scruffy stopped in to talk with the postmaster today when we were emptying our PO box.

Here is what he was told: Before we go on an extended trip, we should fill out the yellow hold-mail card. Then we take it to the PO and have the postmaster approve it for a longer than 30 day trip. It doesn't sound like there will be a problem with this, and it will be nice to not have to hurry home.

Tom & Suzanne,
We too have been following your trip in your blog, what a wonderful time you both are having.

Did you know you can have your blog made into a book? either a paper back or a hard back.

Tater,
Our Post Office will hold the mail for 30 days, we fill out 2 cards and have a friend pick it up and give the 2nd card to them if we are away longer. You can also have the mail send to another address for an indefinite amount of time.

Tom,

DW says go here, http://blog2print.sharedbook.com/blogworld/printmyblog/index.html

Then pick "IM A BLOGGER"

Then enter your link for your blog.

Then answer the questions, and you can edit the blog too.

If you have any questions, let me know and I can call you.

Tom and Suzanne
i have been following your trip religiously, and even got upset if a post was late. I reveled in your descriptions and pictures of places in Alaska that we visited last year. Take your own advise and don't let it end. You have set the bar high and now you have to top it. My hat is off to both of you, keep the tires rolling.

Tom & Suzanne,
We received our blog book today, it looks very nice and well crafted. It has a picture of our camper & truck on the hard bound cover(pic's that WE picked). Its 8 3/4 x 11 1/2 in size and its maybe 3/8 of an inch thick, of course, we only have 60 pages in ours. The pictures inside are 2 3/4 x 2 3/4, chapter titles are in blue, the rest of the words are in black.

One thing, use spell check, or have someone proof read cause they will print your errors.......

Anyhow, very nice book, we will do it again for 2012.
