Alaska alone or with caravan group?

Post by RonK on 12/16/2011, 11:34 am

Does anyone have a strong opinion on using RV Caravan companies for traveling in Alaska. This woud be our first trip to Alaska and to tell you the truth, I hate learning things the hard way anymore and these vendors do offer a lot in the way of reservations, fuel and experience. If you have, who do you like or not?.

Many thanks.

My parents did the caravan in the summer of 2010 and had a blast. They are very social people.

Here's the blog that was done by the caravan group.

Can't say I have done a caravan but we did our first trip to Alaska this summer. We had no problems getting reservations at the campgrounds or getting fuel etc.. Not sure I would like a caravan and being on that strict of a schedule. We stayed the whole month of July in Alaska and didn't get to see everything. A month is really not long enough and I am not sure you would have that much time when doing a caravan. The longer the stay in Alaska the better!! Also you will want to spend time in Canada, going and coming. A month each way is what we did.
