Thanks Maxtor for reminding us there's warm sunny weather somewhere. Weather this A.M. in Colorado Springs, Co, Cold, Light Snow, and High Winds. Hopefully this is my last Fall/Winter in a place with white stuff, the things you do for Family. Jim

Our temps have been in the 50's during the day, and it's been drizzling. We need the rain, so I won't complain, but the dampness sure makes it feel cold.

Scruffy took the trailer to get the wheel bearings packed. We're hoping the rain stops about the time the trailer is ready so Scruffy can put it in its parking space in the backyard. Then it can rain again until mid-January. :-) That is, as long as we have a "window" of dry weather to get out of here.

Must I remind you of the huge snow storm we had back in January of this year. Of course we had not had snow in the last ten years before this. Schools closed, traffic was snarled. Below is a picture of the devastation. [img][/img]

That reminds me too much of when we lived in Northern Illinois. Brrrr.

Even though it gets cold here in the Dallas area, we seldom get any "real" snow. A couple years ago we did - it was nice to look at from the warm side of the windows.

Dallas-Ft. Worth gets their fair share of ice though, don't they?

Yes, we get quite a bit of ice - aka freezing rain. But, it doesn't bother us any more than the snow. Being retired, we don't have to go out in the bad weather. If we are coming home from a trip, we just stay somewhere another day or so; we watch the weather forecasts before a trip, and if it looks like there might be bad weather, we leave a day or so early. We have a "window" of about a week before our next departure date - we just consider it an excuse to start our vacation early.

We do feel sorry for the people who aren't retired if they have to go out in icy or snowy weather, but around here, many places just close early in the afternoon or open late in the morning if roads are bad or getting bad. Generally, when we get ice, it melts by around 9:30 or 10am. Our daughter and her husband work at a place that closes at the first hint of bad weather, and opens late if there was bad weather during the night.

Being retired is great! We paid our dues living in the Chicago area until we were about 43. Only problem with getting old is we just aren't as limber, agile or energetic as we used to be. We don't have to shovel snow, although we do have a snow shovel. Scruffy says it is great for shoveling the leaves that swirl and settle right in front of our garage door.

What is a snow shovel? The only ice we have here is in our coke and tea glasses.

Yes Tater, retirement is great. Every day we get up and look forward to new places to go and see. Life is good... cheers

I got this from a friend today:

Subject: Winter is coming
I just got off the phone with a friend living in North Dakota near
the Canadian Border. He said that since early this morning the snow
has been coming down, it is nearly waist high and is still falling.
The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is
increasing to near gale force. His wife has done nothing but look
through the kitchen window and just stare. He says that if it gets
much worse, he may have to let her in.

Hmmmm. You guys get so much pleasure of attempting humor at the expense of your dear wives. Of course, you all regret it later ----- we have our ways.

Actually, it was really too too funny.

We had a slight break in the weather and managed to put out a few Christmas decorations. Not nearly what we've done in the past, but at least our doorstep isn't dark. It started to sprinkle before we were completely finished.
