HEAT DUCTS

Post by DRM796 on Tue Nov 29, 2011 10:01 am

We just got a 313RE and when we fired up the heater. Noticed the air coming out of the ducts in the living area is much stronger then the vents in the bathroom and bedroom. Is this normal? If not how do you access the ducting to check it.

Yes, but some people modify their ducts to get better flow. A lot of your flow is going to the underbelly and basement. By the time flow gets to the upper level it has lost a lot of SCFM.
There are posts on the forum of mods being done for better flow.

I use a electric blanket in the winter and sleep like a little kid. Yes, it is normal for less heat in the bedroom.

You can close one or two ducts in the living area, this would force more air to go to the bedroom - or you could close all of the downstairs vents about half-way, that, too, would force more air into the bedroom. If you don't have vents that close, you can purchase them at a building supply store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.). That's what we did. Be sure you take measurements of the ones in the trailer before you shop.

Someone on the forum took the vent covers off and stuck a camera into the hole to get a picture. This would show if your ductwork is blocked or crimped.

We just throw a rug over the kitchen vents and increase the flow to the bedroom. Works good for us.

Same thing on our 313RE that we found on last weeks trip to the desert... Also, pull off the inspection cover (wood with 4 brass screws under pantry) and look to see if you dont have a missing outlet cover on the side of the heater box......that's what I discovered, and lucky my son happen to have some aluminum duct tape to make temporary repairs...that improved flow into living area, but not into the bath/bedroom... we like a cool bedroom, and I just stick a catalitic heater in the bathroom to heat it up abit... but will have the repair place make that temporary repair more permanent.. I remember seeing the thread Earl talked about, but cant find it now....must be in the wrong location...

Heh...I'm sure glad I'm not the only one that does it this way! We still get barely a breeze from our bedroom vent, but that's okay. Wifey likes it cold, and if it gets too cold, we don't go camping.

I changed out the original vents to ones that can be closed.

I am currently using magnetic vent covers cut to size. Plan to replace with the closing vents some day.

I had Texas Ranger (MLB) magnetic schedules that were the perfect size to cover our vents. I guess Ranger schedules looked a bit tacky, but they worked fine. Laughing
