Weighing your camper.

Post by BobnPi on 11/22/2011, 4:45 am

I am not aware of any public scales in my immediate area. Do the larger truck stops normally have scales? What would be the cost? Any information is appreciated.

It looks like the closest one is 51 miles away.

Any Pilot, Flying J, Loves or Petro on Interstates should have scales. I weighed twice last week (separate scales) for $9.50 each.

When you do weigh, make sure you have your axles on separate "scales", that way they can give you Axel weights all on one sheet for the price of 1 weight. Here is town at the Cat scale, there are 3 different segments of the scale, each one is a different load sensor. If you put your front axle on one, your rear axle on the second one and the camper axles on the third one, they can break your weights down that way. After that, I just pulled off, unhooked and then re-weighed the truck, this gave me my pin weight. They are set-up to use a CB radio, but they dealt with me on my cell pnone with no problems.

I went to an rv rally in Sept. where they offered wheel by wheel weighing. They are going to have another rally in Texas in the spring. Unfortunately your state is so darn BIG that they will be nowhere near you AwwMan It's to bad because it is real nice to see exactly where the weight is distributed.

Hey Bob, the Pilot/Flying J on I-20 above Tyler has a CAT scale.

They just put the CAT scales in all the Flying J's. I haven't been to the one around the corner from me, but will soon, especially with the new truck.

There is also one just inside the LA border a bit before you get into Shreveport.

Brad, Great information. I had always wanted to know how to weigh mine and get the different weights. Thanks again.

When I weighed mine if was $9.00 for the first weigh and when I pulled back around to "Re-weigh" as they called it to get separate TV and RV weights they only charged $1.00 for the re-weigh.

If you have an auto recycler yard or stone yard nearby they should have a scale. The ones I've used will only charge if you want the weight certified and printed out. The operator waves me on and in positions while he jots down the weights on a piece of paper. Call ahead to make sure it's ok and that they aren't too busy.
