We Sure Do Love Fort Wilderness

Post by Scruffy and Tater on 11/12/2011, 9:47 am

We love this place so much we just don't want to go home - so, we are in the process of extending our stay another 3 days. We met a very nice travel agent, and she said she could get us a discount.... even on such short notice. I'll let you all know how that turns out.

She is also going to contact Kenny to get 3 more days on the golf cart.

We sure did love it to. It was our first trip there and it was great. It was also great to meet you Scruffy and Tater. It is amazing how big Fort Wilderness is, and how easy it is to get around to all the parks from there. We also rented a golg cart from Kenny thanks to Tater, and we also met the travel agent. We are booking for next year same week. We made the drive down non stop, I drove 17 hours and the wife 4. The way back was a different story. After 12 hours we had to pull into Walmart in Virginia and sleep for 5 hours. Great trip, can't wait for next year.

Eric and Family,
It was great meeting all of you. Didn't meet Elvis - was he with you or did he have to stay home?
Fort Wilderness is packed tonight. We drove through a few loops and decided there isn't an empty site in the whole park. All of the tent sites are taken, group camping is stuffed, and there are more tents in the premium, full hook-ups, and preferred sites than we've ever seen before. Went out to the deer place, and cars were parked there - it's normally a no parking zone. Roads in the loops were so busy, we decided to come home, fix dinner and rest. Fireworks are at 10pm tonight - we'll just skip our trip to the marina to watch. Tomorrow night should be peaceful again.
We've never seen Fort Wilderness so busy. Maybe that means the economy is picking up. Wink I hope so - it's nice to see families having fun together. It's starting to quiet down for the evening.

About the travel agent we met. It was very short notice, but she came through by getting us about $10 off for each day that we extended. We're happy with that, and will have her make our arrangements for our January/February trip. I'll post more info in the Fort Wilderness Primer sticky in Camp Ground Reviews.

How are the temps at Fort Wilderness in Jan/Feb? Do they have the same things open druing that time as you have just enjoyed?

We've been at WDW in Jan/Feb and wore shorts and light clothing every day - changing to long pants and jackets at night. Last year we froze the entire time we were here. We just bring clothing for all kinds of weather and we're okay. Everything is open except the water parks - they shut them down for maintentance. Since some people have passports or tickets that include the water parks, they might do maintenance on one at a time. If the weather gets super cold, it's a good reason to buy yet another Disney sweatshirt. Laughing

I'll tell you Tater, they are going to put up a statue of you and Scruffy at the entrance as the new official good will ambassadors. We really miss going there. Have fun and a safe trip home (that is if you ever decide to leave).

We HAVE to leave - or get our daughter to fax some papers to us that need to be signed before Nov 30. She won't do that, BTW, because she is expecting us home for Thanksgiving.

BUT, we are picking the dates for our January trip, and will probably have Nancyrose, our new travel agent, start making our arrangements - before we leave for home Wednesday.

I always thought that you made your own reservations for your WDW pilgrimages.

We always have made our own reservations, but we met Nancyrose, and she promised she would be able to get us good discounts. Since it won't cost us anything, we decided to see what she can do.

We are convinced she'll get us a price we can't refuse.
