The Cat is Sleeping

Post by Frank on 11/4/2011, 11:12 am

I put the Wildcat to sleep today.
1. Drained all Tanks.
2. Pumped all water out of Fresh water line from the Fresh water tank.
3. Bypassed the the Hot Water Heater & Drained and washed it out. Put Screen wire over the HWH and replaced the cover.
4.Hooked up Air compressor set at 35psi to City water intake. Blow all water lines out. Bath room sink, Shower, Toliet, Kitchen sink, Outside shower and last Low Point Drains.
5. Added RV Anifreeze to all Sink Drain Traps and Shower Drain Trap.
6. Tied the Cat down to the Ground anchors. Sleep Sleep Sleep Sleep

I guess I'll do mine to, My wife put the brakes on my annual thanksgiving trip to N. Georgia. Instead we're going to the biltmore house in Ashville, NC for the Christmas Night light stuff,

deadhorse $70 bucks a person just to walk around in a big old house that I've already seen a couple of times already.

But anything to keep the DW happy,,,,, And then theres my little 9yr old girl that will want to know why we don't have a 210 room mansion on our farm,,,,,, lol!

Do you really have to anchor it to the ground?

Did mine Oct 15th. I normally camp till the end of Oct but had to drop trailer @ Forest River in Elkhart for repairs on the 23rd. So I had to end my season early. But small price to pay to get my trailer fixed and I didn't have to haul it out in the snow. Now, just hope they don't get it finished till close to April so I don't have to haul it back home in the salt and snow.

We've been to Biltmore, but not during the Christmas season. I imagine it will be very beautiful. $70 per person seems a bit steep, though.

I put in 4 3' screw-in anchors several years back. I use 2 3" rachet straps.
We have Huricanes, Flat line winds and Tornadoes here in this area.
I do it for for just it case there is that one time hit. It only take me less than 5 min. to strap the cat down and the same amount of time to remove the straps. Better to be safe than sorry. char124
This past fall in this area There were a lot of 100 plus year old Oak trees up rooted by a Huricane. affraid

Did you travel the Pa and Ohio toll road. If you did that cost you a few $$ Shocked
I travel between Breezewood Pa and Streetsboro Ohio on the toll road several times a year by Car. I have done it twice with the Cat. Its a bummer when it cost more going east on the Pa toll road than it does going west. scratch

Did our Cat this week. I'm a belt/suspenders person, I blew out the lines with air then run anti-freeze through everything. DW did the inside cleaning and we put the kitty to bed for the winter.

I just did your exact winterizing list last night. And we still have one more short trip in the works-see thread camping with temps in the teens. It will be a little odd taking the trailer without using any of the plumbing but it is still better than a hotel. I hate hotels.

From Breezewood to Elkhart and back (trailer west bound, bobtailing east bound) tolls were $74.71 with the EZ Pass discounts. EZ Pass is accepted in all 3 states. I did stop over at friends in Huntsburg, Ohio so I did bypass some of the Ohio turnpike west bound. So that knock a few bucks off the total.

This thread makes me kind of sad. I hope all your 'cats have a nice hibernation and wake up ready to go the distance next season!

I'm also impressed by all your shut down procedures. Great stuff for newer Wildcat owners and RVers in general to stumble upon. Is there a thread somewhere on here that covers all this?

I have not thought of anchoring. Hurricane Irene pushed the front landing gear off of the pads the landing gear was on. As soft as the ground was the front end sank about 8". The landing gear was undamaged. It looks like the strong-man stabilizer arms did their job. It was not a pretty site and took some work to get it jacked up so I could hook to it and move when the rain let up. Where do you attach the straps to the camper?

I use 2 straps. 1. I run one across the King Pin Box and attach it to the ground anchors. 2. I run the second one across both rear frame. The ground anchors are about 9' apart. Main point is to keep it from rocking. Course a direct hit will not save it. affraid

After such a hot summer, our camping has just begun. DW and I prefer cooler weather camping. We hope to get in at least 4 or 5 trips before freezing temps are a factor.

Now, if we can only get some rain so the burn bans will be lifted. Hate camping without a fire.
