Bucket List Trip
It would be interesting to find out what trip is on your Bucket List, or the one you crossed off your list, or what trip should be on everyone's Bucket List. Let's limit it to the lower 48 states because Alaska would be a runaway.

Re: Bucket List Trip
Our bucket list includes ALL of the as yet uncamped in continental states (yes, that includes Alaska) AND ALL of the as yet uncamped in Canadian provinces. See white areas in maps below (less Hawaii).

Have a trip planned, not sure when, to do the Gulf Coast to pick up Georgia Alabama and S Carolina, thus completing all states minus Hawaii. Then one more trip to Alaska to include the northwest territory.

Hit all states and most national parks. Also hit all PA state parks, working on that list.

Find a nice park near each member of the forum and meet them for dinner. So many great folks on here. Don't much care about visiting every state as I've driven through 46 of the 57 states, and some of them I don't particularly care to return to.

Our illustrious President once spoke about the 57 states we have. It's one of those rediculous things that just stuck in my head and when anyone mentions all of the United States, 57 just comes out. I'm sure he just mis-spoke.... again.

We went to the Balloon Fiesta last year. They have a chainsaw carving event sponsored by Stihl. After the awards they auction off the carvings with the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It was an expensive trip but well worth it in every way including crossing a few things off of my list.

This one is in the center of our house with spotlights on it.

They are given a solid redwood log and 20 hours to do their art. I have gotten close to Glacier many times but always stray to Yellowstone. It is on the list for 2012 because I can get my Golden Age Pass.

Expect to park outside the park, and drive in for a day visit. It is so crowded now, and personal vehicles arent allowed in some areas, and you have to take a shuttle bus. It is beautiful, but also expect very warm temps...just because it is in the mountains doesnt mean it will be cooler...I've seen +100 deg temps in the valley floor before... Good area to stay is either Mariposa or down towards Coarsegold..

Unfortunately it is going to be a long time before I get there, but it is on the list.

We had a trip planned a couple years ago, but health issues kept us from going. We were going to drive up to Nova Scotia and back - a big circle. Another trip we'd like to do is a drive up along the Pacific Ocean and Yellowstone.

When you make the trip to Nova Scotia, be sure to take a couple of days to tour the Cabot Trail... it is absolutely stunning and you won't be disappointed. Also, you should consider spending 2 or 3 days on Prince Edward Isand as it is fairly close and you've made that long journey from Texas anyway.

We figured we wouldn't stop at Nova Scotia. New Brunswick and PEI would definitely be on the "route." It will be a "once-in-a-lifetime" trip, so we better do it right.

Even without the snow (which would have been fine with me) it was not a very good year for color. I have plenty of trees that are still green. Very odd year

I sit here in the Windham, NH Library, using their wifi cause the power, phone and cable (internet access) are still out. Maybe back by Friday according to Public Service of NH. (they lie alot).
Our bucket list is for one last long trip out west, through the northern tier of states and into WA, OR and northern CA. After that we'll probably to shorter, week-long jaunts and week-ends.

Re: Bucket List Trip
There are three trips I REALLY want to take before its too late:
The Scotch and Whiskey tour of Scotland and Ireland, using public transportation of course.
Alaska from one end to the other, using every known method of transportaion available in the state. While I'm there, do some serious gold mining and salmon fishing in or around Nome.
Mineral hunting trip from coast to coast looking for precious and semi-precious gems, i.e. emeralds rubies and sapphires in N.C., diamonds and quartz crystals in Arkansas, dinosaur fossils in Colorado, black fire opal in Nevada, pink tourmaline in southern Cal, and sun stones in Oregon....just to name a few.
If I have money left over, I'd strongly consider a driving trip up the Appalachians in the fall.

Hey Mike I bet they have power, WI-FI, Phone and cable at the KOA in Asheville, NC. We are living in Colorado Springs, CO right now and have had 3 snow falls already, tomorrow it's suppose to be 18 degrees with high winds. Cann't wait to move back to the North Georgia Mountains in a year and spend our winters in Florida. Hope you get your services back soon. Jim
