Tankless water heater problems

Post by Richard Mondavi on 10/29/2011, 1:10 am

Well, since the thread about the tankless water heater has been locked, I’ll post my reply in this new thread.

Sorry but when a member has a problem with his trailer, posting phone numbers and sending private emails doesn’t help the other members of this forum. When problems/issues are posted, it’s important that the solution/fix to the problem be posted also. This is especially true if one of the other forum members experiences the exact same problem at a later date and might be camped in the middle of nowhere.

That exact scenario happened to me in 2004 while camping in the Tetons. We were preparing to leave our campsite and head up to Yellowstone when we had a major problem with our slideout. It wouldn’t retract. Fortunately I had read about this problem and the fix on the old (original) Wildcat Forum. A small circuit breaker hidden behind a large protective piece of rubber in the front storage area needed to be reset. Even knowing the solution, it still took me quite a bit of searching to find that breaker. I finally found the little black switch that reset the breaker thanks to the info from other Wildcat owners. Once the breaker was reset the slide retracted and we were on our way.

Funny thing, we never experienced that problem again. I have to wonder what the outcome of that problem would have been if we would have had to find a mobile RV repairman who probably wouldn’t have had any knowledge of the Wildcat line of trailers. BTW, we were in an area without cell phone towers/service.

That’s why it’s important to post the solution when a member writes about a problem/issue with his/her Wildcat. As I said, phone numbers and private emails don’t help the other members of this forum. Isn’t members helping members what this board is about? Isn’t the sharing of information about our Wildcats and RV lifestyle the real purpose of this forum? Aren’t we allowed to express our opinion of a new product even though we “don’t own it or have actually used it?”

With the original thread locked I have to wonder if this forum is going to become nothing more than a “corporate cheerleader.” If that’s the case, then it becomes pretty much useless to the members.

If one of the members experiences the same problem that someone is posting about, then of course it would be a matter of courtesy to post whatever solution worked for him/her.

But, it isn't fair to expect a person in the sales department to give instructions for repairing a mechanical problem. These people representing Wildcat are doing what I think is the right thing - directing the person having the problem to an expert. This isn't the old days without celphones - this is now. If the person had the ability to post the problem, he has the ability to call the expert - and to give the expert a detailed explanation of what is happening. The expert, most likely, will have some questions regarding the problem before anything can be decided. It would be much better for the person having the problem to talk with an expert rather than a Wildcat rep who can only relay the problem to the expert.

And - when the problem is solved, it would be wonderful if the person who had the problem would help the other members of the forum by posting the solution here - with photos when appropriate.

One last thing, many problems can be solved by looking at a manual which usually can be found by doing a search on the very same computer that we find our WildcatCamperForum on. When we had a problem with our slide in Holbrook, AZ, we searched for Lippert's website and found the manual - and quickly solved the problem. It was much quicker than posting the problem in the forum and waiting for a reply from someone who has had the same problem.

I completely agree Richard. I don't like where this is heading in any way.
Members helping members is exactly why I joined this forum.

There are problems with this tankless water heater and our members need to be aware of it. I would go so far as to say the thread here has the attention of the manufacturer and he will make changes to better his product because of it. That is a good thing for us the consumer. Yea, a few comments were over the top but by far, there were many others on line and informative to our members.

This place will quickly become a ghost town if censorship and factory butt kissing become the norm.

I am coming in late on this, due to being busy racing our race cars, but I have been reading some of the responses on this topic, and must say this.
Bashing of Moderators will not be tolerated. If you have a beef with a moderator, then PM the one you have a beef with. If this continues, a temporary or permanent ban of that person will happen.

Sounds reasonable and fair to me. I enjoy this forum due to the lack of bashing you find on the other RV forums. But lately that has changed and its sad. I just don't understand how an RV appliance that most don't own is causing so much trouble. I do hope it settles down and the forum goes back to normal.

Members helping members is exactly why I joined this forum.

There are problems with this tankless water heater and our members need to be aware of it.

I"m getting it back to where we were,,,, I'm trying Hard,,,,

And trust me the Gerard Tech guys are wide open helping people either understand their system, or if that doesn't work for them, they are getting the old tank style installed.

Richard , the other thread got locked because it became a fight instead of a help topic.
Its up to the person that got the problem solved to post their experience on here or not.
They can start a new thread , its FREE.
Sorry so many feathers got ruffled over a hot water heater. I'd say I don't get it ,,,, but I got it and hopefully solved the problem for future topic's of Hot Water Heaters. cheers

Thats good news on both fronts Phillip. Thats all anyone can ask for from the Gerard guys. I know you guys are doing a great job here and its not an easy thing to do.

Maxtor - I sure didn't mean for my reply to come off as "bashing" anyone. Especially Tater as she is one of my Fav's! Laughing

We have a great site here, "because of the members" and learn from each other. We can all work together to keep this site pleasant.
If we show mutual respect for each other, we can continue to enjoy everyone's input.
