Stolen Tire Cover

Stolen Tire Cover
Our new spare tire cover arrived yesterday, it seems that somebody liked the old one more than we did. On our trip to Myrtle Beach it disappeared at a rest stop in Dunn, NC. It was on the camper when we pulled in, but gone when we came out of the bathrooms. It was a fancier one with the cat and the words "wild cat" below it. According to the dealer, they sell about a dozen or so a year to replace ones that have been stolen off the back of campers. Is this a problem in other areas, or just a VA/NC thing?

Re: Stolen Tire Cover
I decided to see what colleges use the "Wildcat" as a mascot to see if that is the reason it was stolen. There are a LOT of colleges and university's that use that logo. A couple that are roughly near you include Johnson & Wales (NC, SC, and Virginia) Also University of Kentucky (not so close). Who knows, maybe that is why

Re: Stolen Tire Cover
Hmm, hadn't thought about that being the reason. I did replace it with an identical one this time, thinking we might just get a plain white one or take it off when we travel like that again.

Re: Stolen Tire Cover
We thought we'd like a Wildcat tire cover. One didn't come with our trailer (our's had a cover with the dealer's name). Instead of Wildcat, we replaced the dealer's advertising with a cover that has a flag. If someone steals our flag, I hope he/she displays it proudly.... and we'll get a new one.

Re: Stolen Tire Cover
Sort of the same problem. The elastic band on our cover just plain got cooked by the sun. Loose enough that I won't leave it on and tow. Since all it needs is a new chunk of elastic I thought "Take it to a place where they make bimini covers for boats" (no joy), "Take it to an auto upholstery place" (no joy), "take it to somebody that does clothing alterations" (no joy), "put the damned thing in the basement" (that worked).

Re: Stolen Tire Cover
I know my elastic was in good shape, as part of my pre trip inspection it comes off in order to check the spare and tire pressure. At least the replacement wasn't too expensive
