Possible Scam alert!

Post by onetonford on 10/16/2011, 3:20 am

Just so everyone knows the other day somebody called my home and told me my trailer Insurance was going to expire and I needed to renew it? I know the factory warrenty was running out and I had other Insurance thru another company for two years? So I asked them which company they were talking about they told me a Name I did not reconize and they told me I should of been told of it when I purchased it and I was owed this covereage? They kept trying to get me to give them my Info so they could extend it. I told them I was not Interested in it and just let it laspe they kept on insiting that I should go with their Insurance as they were listed as one of the best out there compared to what I have? They kept trying to get me to give them a method of payment and I kept telling them I had enough insurance and didn't need more If they were that interested in selling me insurance then send me the paperwork so I could look it over and they continued wanting a method of payment at which time I hung up on them. So if somebody calls you and tells you you had insurance thu them and you had no Idea tell them to send you some info and you'll get back to them and hang up.

Thanks for the heads-up. I suppose there is some good reason why our ownership or registrations are public record, but I really can't figure out what it is. It just gives scammers the info they need to call or mail us.

Your right about asking these callers to mail the info to your home - they usually have some excuse why they can't do that - or they hang up.

Thanks.

I got a new one also, received a email with a traffic citation from New York, it listed violation of two different New York traffic codes and a link to go to to plead and pay the fine. Number one I have not been to New York in 30 years, Number Two it did not have any of my information on the citation, Number three I could tell it was being sent alphabetically to various email addresses at yahoo.com, I have received it twice so far and just hit the delete button as it shows up in my spam folder anyway.

Its called phishing, and you'd be amazed how many people get suckered into giving out vital info on a daily basis. Scary stuff!!

I got this one too. What a joke. It's a shame some are vulnerable and gullible enough to walk into their trap. There's another one going around about your bank account being siezed until you call a scammer phone number.

We got this one a couple of times last month. I asked for a return phone number so I could give it to the Texas Attourney General. They hung up and never called back.

As times get tougher the crooks get smarter. They never give up because it is made so easy for them to steal.

We just have to be alert. When I worked, I used to get lots of phone calls. They would say this is your office supply store, and our records show that it's time to buy toner for your copy machine. I would ask if they are Modern Office Supplies, and they would hang up. I read somewhere that these scammers are actually registered with a name like Your Office Supply. That was way back in the old days. Wink

If you have a policy with them....they have the info. Last time I go one of these I questioned them about their info and reported them.
