peeling decals

Post by thebigpunn on 6/17/2008, 7:18 am

my decals are peeling/ curling on the edges like many others.
i contact FR today, i am waiting for a response. i feel that since we do basically advertise free for them that they may consider replacing or fixing them for owners. i am not interested in spending my time razor blading or apoxying them as i feel its is more their problem than mine, cause if they dont i may consider peeling them all off the rest of the way myself!

so any bets on if they'll fix em or not?

Good luck, Let us know how it goes. I'd be very interested to see even though I don't think they will do anything. If you can price them just to see how much they are.

My father in law has a Coachmen motorhome- his decals are peeling
he called coachmen about it - They asked if he had waxed the rv
and if he did , did he wax the decals. He told them yes- they said
the wax destroys the decals!

rod batts emailed me today about the peeling decals. he said he will send me all knew decals at FR cost, however i would have to pay to have them installed or install them myself! i figure i can deal with that! he met me half way on a camper thats out of warranty. when i originally sent him the pictures of the ones that were peeling i explained that the decals meant more to FR than they do for me as fas as free advertisement for FR. so i explained, i would peel em all the rest of the way and have none, even though the kids really like the decals. he was receptive and worked with me. i will have a decal business about 7 miles from me install them professionally.

Very cool... I noticed on my '04 some are beginning to peel. I know it isn't because of wax, I've only used the RV wash-n-wax stuff.

Are you going to install yourself or have it done?

That's good news. Ours are not peeling, yet, but one sticker near the upstairs bedroom of the passenger side seems like is shrinking due to being exposed to the sun most of the day.

If it's not to much to ask what was the FR cost for the stickers and did they have your model stickers not the new cat version?

Good question grover, didn't think about FR replacing the decals w/ the new ones, not the ones that came w/ my Cat...

Congratulations! We spent last weekend peeling the Cat off and we are working on the front cap stickers. I called the local dealer for replacement prices and haven't heard anything in about a week.

Don't you love the great customer service. I would be curious to the price of a full set of decals. What model and year is your camper jadeco?

Re: peeling decals

Post by Flyer on 7/10/2008, 3:27 pm

Hey All!

Glad to hear someone is having luck getting some decals for thier rig, as mine are really starting to peel. Like you, I really dont care if they are on the rig, but maybe I can get a new front cap set.

I am not really convinced that the waxing is the problem. I have waxed my whole rig over all of the decals, and the only one peeling is the front cap decals. I am thinking the combination of using harsher cleaners for removing bugs, and the nature of the cap being in the sun and wind from going down the road are more of a reason for the lifting.

Will try and get in touch with FR to see what they will do, will keep you all informed!

Post by jadeco on 7/11/2008, 1:59 pm

Mark,
We bought a 2002 28bh model. The labels were really bad on the front passenger side and the front cap labels are almost gone. We went ahead and removed the cat on both sides, but the label on the front is really tough! The inside is almosy like new. Actually smells new to me. Still don't know how much replacement decals are. I thought it might be better to go with the newer decals, but don't know.

By the way, we're not that far apart according to your signature or profile listed. We are just east of OKC.

I'M not saying waxing destroys the decals, that is just what
coachman told him. They are just trying to get out of doing
anything for him. Whats strange is only 1 side of his camper
the stickers shrunk and are peeling.
Both him and I store our campers next to each other
and My 2005 wildcat showed no signs of sticker
damage when I traded it in.

WOW!!!!!

I can't begin to say how distressing this whole decal thing is to us. I spent our last outing cutting the rolled/peeled edges off with a knife. They are making the trailer look really bad. Both cats actually have about a 1 inch split down the middle of the face! Some have shrunk several inches. I am going to call FR to see about replacement. They are coming off very soon.

I have never waxed, and as I stated in another thread before I found this one, a neighbor has a Cougar that he has had as long as we have had our Cat and his decals still look like new!

I'll post some pix.

I dont believe waxing hurts them either. Infact, I've waxed mine every year (sometimes twice) and they look perfect. I believe it's the sun and poor quality material that are responsible for the failures. For better or worse, our WC see's very little sun here in western Wa. and it's parked where both sides are shaded.
The front is another story, I never wax it because the gel coat is bad and I'm thinking of getting it painted and the sticker is fading badly. The front gets almost a full days sun (when its sunny ).

I've sent an email to Rod Batts and Kyle Hilliard at FR with some photos. I really hope they can do something to help. I'll attach a couple here to show how drastic this is. You can see where the dirt has attached to the adhesive where the decals have rolled back. I've lost inches in some places.

EDIT: I spoke with Rod and seems my cat was built at the plant in Oregon so he forwarded my email to Beverly Scott at the plant in Oregon. Thanks Rod!

UPDATE: Got an email from Beverly and she agreed that it looks terrible and recommended I remove them, buff it and buy new decals from my local dealer.

Beverly got me a new VIN tag. Mine is almost solid brown now. I haven't put the new one on yet. But the old one is not readable. My decals seems to be holding up after 4 1/2 years. I don't wax, but I have washed it at least once a year with the car wash soap.

Re: peeling decals

Post by bighornram on 8/4/2010, 11:54 am

Hello,

Thank-you for taking the time to look at the attached photos. I have
been struggling with the decals on my Wildcat fading and shrinking,
rolling up. I got your contact information from an online forum. I
hope you will consider helping me replace these. I am ready to remove
them, as you can see in the photos, I have cut the "rolled" portions
off. The amount removed is actually still visible as there is dirt
attached to the adhesive left behind. Some places I have lost over one
inch of decal. The decal on the front has just about lost all color in
addition to shrinking and rolling. I've also included a photo of the
tag including serial number etc. I have several neighbors who own other
brand trailers. They are exposed to the elements the same as mine and
have not lost their appearance as my cat has.

Thank-you
Jeff

Dear Jeff,
I have viewed your pictures and this does look like weathered decals to
me. I understand that you have friends with different brands and theirs
is not as bad as yours but that doesn't take away from the fact that
these ones definitely appear to be weathered. Even if under warranty
still the owners manual does state that warranty does not cover damage
due to weather elements.

I share in your frustration that this has happened, I wish there was
something I could offer you to assist you but the decals are no longer
available. The only suggestion I have to offer is to remove what is left
buff your whole trailer and install current Wild Cat decals.

To obtain these you would have to purchase them through your local
Forest River Dealer.

I am truly sorry that these decals have weathered so badly.

Thank you for contacting us regarding this matter,
