something they did right
FR went above all expectations when they installed that little peice of wood between the hot water heater and under the sink cabinet. They used 4 two inch screws. At least after my trailer falls apart that little peice of wood will still be standing. LOL.

They just don't build them like they used to.
What's the purpose of the little piece of wood?

Mine had the piece of board also I think it is to keep from damaging the bypass valves. But it was almost impossible to use the valves so I removed it. Now I can acually fit a small trash can in there and some more pots and pans.

That's good use of wasted space, onetonford.
I'm trying to visualize where the piece of wood is located. Scruffy probably knows - if there is a similar one on our 29rlbs. We'll be spending a lot of time in the trailer during the next week getting it ready to travel. I'll ask.

On mine Tater it was under the sink cabinet just behind the water heater But about 6" from the cabinet door now with it removed I can access under the drawers and there was alot of space along side the water heater also.

I can't picture it at all. Scruffy will show me tomorrow, you can bet on it - if I remember.

The 29RLBS Hot water heater is located in the bottom of the Pantry in ours.
Tater I would think yours is located in the same place as ours.

Frank,
Thanks. That's what I was thinking, because I remember that Scruffy was working in there when he installed the wiring for the water heater switch. But, then I thought I was probably wrong. Okay, so I believe there IS a pretty good-sized space, but I seem to remember seeing a warning about not storing stuff there..... or I'm sure I would have modded that out long ago.

Re: something they did right
Scruffy had the cover off of the water heater compartment today, and I just happened to be there with the camera (took pic of new storage area in bedroom closet). Here are some photos - this is a 2007 29rlbs.

I was wrong about a warning - just a statement saying this isn't a storage compartment.

Looking down on left side - I see sawdust!

Another front view showing that this area might possibly be modded to be a storage area. It might need some vent holes. If it got too hot in there, the wood would be scorched, so I'm not worried about that.

Looking down on the right side. Somewhere in there is a standard wall outlet - Scruffy tapped into that to wire the WH switch above the kitchen drawers..... I believe that's the yellow wiring in the lower right hand corner.

I have the same thing but no cover. As soon as you open the door we have access to the HWH. Our plug is on the right. We also have a shelf over the HWH it we never use.

Ours is the same way. No cover. Our 2004 27RL we had before was the same way.
Our hotwater heater is Hard wired no plug in.
We use the shelf over the hotwater heater for paper products and trash bags etc.
I can reach in to the bypass valve on the hotwater heater with out removing a cover.
