Scruffy Quit His Job - Again
Scruffy has re-re-retired. He quit his temporary consulting job in Saint Louis. He will have 2 weeks at home to get a lot of stuff done, then we'll be heading for Florida. If the company he was working for finds a person for the job Scruffy was doing temporarily, we might go up to Saint Louis together so he can train the person - if the company wants him too.

Congrats Scuffy, but how can DH and I meet you for dinner again if you are not here in the St. Louis area?

Re: Scruffy Quit His Job - Again
If the company gets a replacement for the job Scruffy was filling, he will make himself available to train the person - IF it is before snow season begins. Then we will both go up there.... probably for a week. So, if they find someone, we'll hope the person needs training.

Re: Scruffy Quit His Job - Again
After I retired (at 57) from Lucent Technologies I went to work for a church as their business manager. I spent 6 years there and then decided to retire from that and go on to working at the KOA in NC. Did that for three seasons and finally decided, enough is enough.
Not so the DW. She just started a part-time job as a barista at a local gourmet coffee shop called Coffeeberries. She loves it.
So, Scruffy, enjoy your new found time off and best of luck.

Re: Scruffy Quit His Job - Again
When he got the offer in 2008, it was one that he just didn't want to refuse. He worked something like 8 weeks - one week on, one week off - for 4 months. We were able to squeeze in some traveling in some of the off weeks. The company got a new guy, and Scruffy trained him a bit - not much was necessary, the guy had experience in that job. I didn't travel with him during that time, but we decided if he got another offer, I'd go with.
This summer the company asked him to come back - the other guy left the position. I wanted to go with, but had some draperies to make for our son and daughter-in-law - I promised. I think Scruffy worked a total of 5 weeks - same deal, one week on, one week off - except he worked 2 consecutive weeks just before we left for CA. We agree that if he gets called back to train a new person, I'll go with. But, we're thinking enough is enough, and one more week will most likely be enough.
Scruffy enjoys working, and likes the idea that he can quit any time he wants, but he doesn't take the jobs out of the goodness of his heart - they make it very worthwhile. However, we really don't like being separated, so, if there's another offer, I go with... maybe we can work out a deal where the company pays someone to mow our lawn, if it's during the growing season.

Tater, I retired at 56 from a major oil company. After about a year, They called me to work a short term construction project as a contract QC inspector. One project lead to another!! Four years later I had to quit to retire again.

Retiring is fun. Everyone should do it - at least once.

You really thing you are going to get any benefits? You're working to pay for OUR benefits. BTW, thank you!
Scruffy CANNOT SIT STILL. He goes out to work on the lawn in 105 degree weather, just for something to do. He never refuses to do a mod I come up with..... this afternoon he's going to look at the trailer closet to see if he can do my most recent idea.
Up until a few months before he retired, Scruffy loved his job - then thoughts of retirement got very strong, and he became dissatisfied with having to go to work everyday.
He enjoys seeing old friends and talking "shop." We both enjoy the extra money, and it's enough $$ to really mean something. If they offer him another temporary job, he would probably take it.... IF I can go with - but, neither one of us wants to be separated like that again.

DW and I know the feeling as the end of my tour here at Fort Knox approaches; it's been two years (almost) and I for one am looking forward to being back together. Especially looking forward to the time together in the WC! The Mods To Do List includes several that you and Scruffy have led the way on. I expect that list may grow as Scruffy now has more time.
