Hoover Dam Bridge

Hoover Dam Bridge
We were hoping for a fantastic view of Hoover Dam when we crossed the new bridge. Not to be. There are walls on the sides that, even in the truck, we couldn't see over.
There were high wind advisories warning about high winds, and high profile vehicles should use the left lane ----- blow them over the side instead of on to another vehicle? A high wind advisory is sustained winds of 25 to 39 miles per hour and gusts of 30 to 49 miles per hour.
High wind warnings are 50 mile-per-hour-plus wind gusts or sustained winds of more than 40 miles per hour. During high wind warnings, high profile vehicles must detour through Laughlin, NV using US 95 in NV or US 93 in AZ. There are signs giving ample time to take the detour.
High profile vehicles are commercial trucks, RVs, campers, buses and large truck-trailer combination’s.

Re: Hoover Dam Bridge
Can't see crap from the new bypass. After you cross the bridge, heading north, or at the exit for the dam, headed south, take the exit. You'll find a parking area where you can walk up a path and out onto the bridge. There's a sidewalk that goes across the bridge on the otherside of that concrete wall. If you follow that road there's a parking garage for the dam complex. And as another has said, you can walk across the dam. Which is why we made it a point to drive over the dam the spring before the new bridge opened, just so we could say we'd done it.

Re: Hoover Dam Bridge
We've been over Hoover Dam many times by car, truck/trailer, and foot. Went on a tour once - not the big tour, but big enough. We were just so disappointed we couldn't see it from the bridge - I'm sure it would be an awesome sight. Next time we are there, if we have time, we'll stop and walk out on to the bridge.

Drove the bridge today on our drive to Buckeye , Arizona. It is shame you can't see the dam, because it is a great view.
If you check my blog you will see pictures of the new bridge and the view you get. http://mga60tw.blogspot.com/
Scruffy and Tater, are you in Arizona?

Re: Hoover Dam Bridge
We are home in Texas. Got home Friday evening. I've got a lot of photos of the bridge under construction. We'll have to stop some day when we are passing through and get a pic of it completed.
Did you feel any wind when you were on the bridge?

Home safely, and Scruffy is on a plane to St. Louis. I think he's going to quit the job this week. Got my fingers crossed that they don't talk him out of it.

Re: Hoover Dam Bridge
No wind at all. It was a nice easy drive. In all my miles of driving on this trip (knock on wood) we have not run into any wind.
Those signs are a little scarey! As you said get in the left lane and hang on

Re: Hoover Dam Bridge
Glad you had a good drive.
We were glad we didn't have the trailer on this trip - we encountered strong winds both going to CA and coming back home. We both mentioned a couple times we'd probably pull off somewhere, find a place to stay the night, and try again the next day - IF we had the trailer.
