city water problems

Post by 1985sj on 9/26/2011, 11:24 am

I'm new to forum just bought a new 2010 29bhs and I have a problem with water connection. when forest river made this camper they plumbed the city water between the water pump and the tank so when you hook it to city water it fills the tank. correct me if I'm wrong but the city water goes after the pump for the internal pump check valve to prevent tank fill.
The other problem is where the put the water pick up in the tank. there is 10-15 gallons of water the pump wont pick up due to suction fitting on the side of tank and it being 1-2 inches up the side. it will only will pick up 18 out of listed capacity of 47 gallons. we went camping this past weekend, ran out of water after 1 day and I filled it up with 3 six gallon cans. this is sad the didn't catch these issues at the factory. any ideas how to get the other half tank of water to the pump?

I think alot of people have had a water problem. You can more than likely reroute the city line to after the pump and as far the fresh water tank check to make sure that it is still on the brackets they put it on. Look into the forum I know some one has pictures about the water tank brackets. What I did was put 1X6 under the brackets and moved them closer. I also took their vent line that went to the under (and spilled over when traveling) and moved it to the vent line spot on the water filler..

I also was saying and being empty after we had 3 showers(2 days). Once I did the vent line movement I can know have around 6 showers and still say around 1/3 of a tank..

Welcome...

sounds like your are correct on the tank filling once you are connected to SW...without a check valve its gonna back feed...

unfortunately if you dont want to repipe it yourself, its back to the dealer time....personally speaking I have had the ability to fix most things on all of my previous campers and would rather do that anyways...I have very little faith of other peoples workmanship these days...

As far as the tank pick up... can you tell if there is a 90 degree elbow on the inner side of the tank...if so could it just need to be rotated downwards to scavenge the rest of the water....

If not I have an idea but I will need to check the fitting on mine...

I do heating and plumbing work and in my world there is such a thing as a double tap bushing...those tanks use standard NPT fittings so it is possible to make up a dip tube that would drop to the bottom of the tank ....that is to say in theory... there is a way, but again I'll have to take a look at mine I cant say I've ever looked at it.

I am surprised that this isn't already taken care of at the factory somehow, so I'm thinkin it may just be an adjustment of somethin that is already there

Every unit is different, so I'm not familiar with yours, but FR has had several problems with the water system. Here are a couple of posts that might help.

Water tank project & extra tank

Welcome to the forum. Your tank should not fill up when hooked to the city water connection. The connection should look something like this:
Tank --> pump with check valve --> tee with connection from pump and city water --> water filter --> water pipes to faucets/water heater.

thanks everyone for the reply. i have thought of a double tap fitting with a piece of hose to reach the middle of the tank. guess its back to the dealer to let them deal with the wrong plumbing. I will keep updating the forum

Took the cat back to the dealer. normally would fix it my self but it would hate to have a problem later and FR try to void any warranty because of a self repair. Not too far of a trip 45 miles
