Blew it up good. HELP!
First topic message reminder :
Well less then 2 years ago I bought a 2003 F 350 with 6.0 Diesel. Coming home from my sister-in-laws I blew the 6.0 up. We had plenty of smoke on the way home and now I have been told it is toast.
I am NOT going diesel again. This one really hurt me in the heart and pocket. Costing over $1000.00 a month for having the truck plus fuel, oil, filters, wipers, tail gate ($1000.00).
Sorry I had to vent a little.
Now I am looking at a Chevey 2500 HD or A HEMI 2500. Not sure which will pull my small cat. I know it will take a lot of fuel to tow and less power. Can I enjoy the 2500 HD as much as my Dearly Departed F 350?
Would I be happy with the HEMI?
Please Help!
Thanks Gang

The 6.0 Ford on the other hand is known and well documented with many troubles including exactly what just happened with yours. I know it has left a bad taste with you for all diesels but I can assure you other diesel engines are a much better design. Including other Fords. The older 7.3 has an excellent reputation as a reliable engine.
When I purchased my truck a few years ago I had researched many hours. The only truck I had completely ruled out was the 6.0 Ford. Too bad because the used car lots were then, and still are, saturated with 6.0 Fords. Too many complaints and troubles from too many owners. Some from die hard Ford guys I had known and trusted for years. I know not all 6.0's were lemons but too many for me to risk taking a chance on one.
If it were me, I would be looking for another diesel. I would just stay clear of the 6.0 Ford. Any others, I would only consider the best shape for the price.
Depends on the year it was made, how you drive it and how U maintain it. Some of the problems I have had are not the engines fault. It is the smog crap we are forced to put on it. Get rid of the EGR carp, can not in CA, would help. With the changes they have made to the 6.0 it is not bad.

Two trucks ago was a gasser. I am now on my second diesel (last one the ex wife got along with everything else). I am sold on diesel, especially when hills are involved.

Well I hope the Duramax is the answer. I have been reading that everyone is having or expect to have with the DPF, what is with this?
What happens and how often does it happen and how much does it cost?

Re: Blew it up good. HELP!
Beartoo took my 06 duramax to the dealer this morning because the check engine light came on last week, the truck has only 58,000 miles on it, the cause is the turbo censor is out, the out the door cost to repair it is $1077, could not find anyone else to replace it any cheaper, have had the truck for 6 yrs and have never had to put any money into it except for after market stuff. I bought the truck new, but i would never go back to towing with a gas engine but that is just my own opinion. Good luck with the new truck. The only thing i never really liked about my 06 D/A 4x4 CC is that it came with a 26 gallon tank so 2 months ago i had the 26 gallon tank replaced with a 45 gallon tank, now i a really happy camper

I think it is in all our owners manuals that one month after the warranty runs out our trucks have problems.
Although in our case our 6.0 Ford, so far has not had any problems, and we ordered it from the factory. It only has 32K miles on it now, so maybe around 60K we might experience an issue... Hope not.
