Preparing for our trip

Preparing for our trip
The purpose of our trip to California was to visit our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson; to deliver the window treatments I started at home, and bring out some family antiques that were promised to our son whenever he wanted them.
We weren't taking the trailer, and would be hauling the antiques in the bed of the truck. Scruffy built 48x48x26inch box for the truck. The box held a large trunk, a rocking chair, and boxes of small antiques.
Here are photos of the empty box and filled box. I forgot to take a picture of the box all closed up.

Scruffy and our son dismantled the box and the wood will be used for shelves in our son's garage.

Looks like someone did some careful measuring and some excellent packing.

Re: Preparing for our trip
Can't keep the box. Took it apart and gave the lumber to our son. Scruffy could build another one in the future, if needed.

Re: Preparing for our trip
That trunk has been in Scruffy's family for years. No gold coins or pirate treasure inside.... darn! When we got it off the farm, it was in pretty bad cosmetic shape, and had a mouse hole in the bottom. Structurally, it was fine. It's missing the tray that goes inside.kwf904 wrote:Cool trunk. The rocking chair was my grandma's, and is exactly as it was when we got it from our family farm.

Should scruffy go into the shipping container business ? I've got a friend that ships old car parts all over and would love to have scruffy for a next door neighbor.

Re: Preparing for our trip
Tater, you could have packed a few Illegals in that trunk and had your fuel paid for!!!!

Re: Preparing for our trip
We actually thought of that - illegals. I suggested to Scruffy that he bring a cordless screwdriver along so he could remove the top in case someone wanted to look inside. He didn't take a cordless, but he did have a manual one. Nobody seemed interested.
Didn't want to just cover it with a tarp - a tarp would be too easy to cut open, and we were concerned about water damage if we got in a rainstorm - which we did around Holbrook, AZ. The stuff inside the box had plastic around it and draped over it. Scruffy sealed it with caulk, and it probably would have taken a really bad storm for water to get in. Sometimes Scruffy goes for overkill.
