sirius sat radio

Post by Admin on 6/16/2008, 1:33 pm

I've got friends with the sat radios'. Kinda wanted one but didn't think it would be worth the money.
My wife / daughter got me one for Fathers day this weekend.
Hooked it up and got hooked within a few miles of driving. I love talk radio along with all the alt rock stations / etc..... They even have playboy channel - didn't know that before,,,, But I like it.
I'll be taking that in the cat also,,,, with the kid lock on it though. One minute of howard stern would turn her little ears inside out..... affraid

Now to decide if I want to drag the Sat TV reciever along or get the on the go sat tv ?

I have given that some thought also; for now my thinking is to avoid the on the go version for two reasons: 1) Price, 2) we try to park in the shade, there goes the signal.

Exactly, BUT, when the weather turns foul (or early/late in the season) it might be nice to have options indoors. Also, when DW and I retire we hope to be on the road for weeks or even a few months at a time. Satelite connections may be part of how we navigage, communicate with family/friends and manage finances. Not ready to actually do any of this yet, but thinking ahead.

I've had XM for a number of years. I drive a lot for work, about 4k miles month. I can't remember the last time I listened to anything else; don't know what I'd do without it.

I have XM in the truck and camper. Like Scott, I drive 4-5k / month for work in rural areas and I have no idea how I lived without it before. The only reason I listen to FM radio is to listen to Bob & Tom in the morning. In the camper, I ran the antenna right next to the existing radio antenna on the roof, now I always have a signal.

I have Sirius in my truck and a portable plug and play i shuffle between my work cruiser and the camper, i also couldnt imagine being without it. I think the programing is awsome, i listen to so many diffrent thinks it amazes my wife. Football season is the best and nascar races are my favorite sports on it, but the diffrent prospectives in the talk radio and of course the All ELVIS all the time channel........

Not sure which radio you have, I have a Sportster 4. The way I would do it (personal choice) is to get this kit: http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/servlet/ExecMacro?nurl=control/StoreItem.vm&ctl_nbr=2640&siId=1688575&catLevel=1&scLevel=0&thisCatLevel=&oldParentID=7872&catParentID=7872&scId=7881 and mount the antenna on top of a roof vent cover: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/translucent-white-roof-vent-cover/1733 , drill a hole for the plug and cable through the metal frame of the roof vent (seal with silicone) and run the cable to the docking station along an edge of the roof. Plug in the radio into the Concertone Aux. Input and listen. That way you wouldn't have to drill any holes into the roof.

Thanks, the sporter 4 will do. Mounting the unit and connecting not a problem, just hiding the antenae wire. The wire from the vent to the Concertone, is there a simple way to conceal it? Maybe pull it through the TV antenae "route"??

It's probably pretty tough to go through the existing antenna route. I would use something like this: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=143785-35681-CH1-W&lpage=none

Thanks, that'll work. With my model bunkhouse model, I'll use the vent in the bathroom. Only a foot away from the closet wall. Go inside along the top, down the back wall,to the bottom/top of the Concertone connections!! Wires concealled.

I ran mine with the radio antenna wire to the roof. I pulled the existing antenna off and there is a large enough hole to fit the XM antenna through. Then I just regooped everything and set the XM antenna in the goop to mount it. So far it has held with no problem. All wires are in the wall with the Concertone.

We can access XM/Siruis through an internet connection. I can listen to it through the computer. When we are at a campground that has free wireless, I just run a cable from my laptop to the Concertone. Also do the same thing with my music collection on the laptop.
