New Brighton State Park

Post by Portagie1968 on Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:01 am

We spent 7 days at this lovely park. Since they have eradicated most of the raccoons Rocky was not to be found except for foot prints. We have stayed here for years. Rocky usually ruled the park in herds. There was lots of damage from the storms this year. Hot showers and a potty. No complaints. They did close half the bathrooms becasue of budget cuts. Anyway here are the pictures including the funky tree growing at the park.

Never got the rockers out.

That reminds me of staying in Okefeenokee swamp on one of the platforms, there was a coon that was the king there. This coon would come up to your cooler with you standng there , pop the top open and grab something and dare you to say anything to him. So you learned to lock it down tight before he came out.
Neat looking campground. which one is the funky tree you mentioned ?

Great Pics, thanks for posting. My favorite is the one with the mist in the trees. Two before Funky.

We had another rain today. Heavy but short. I hope they keep coming so the burn ban will be lifted. It's cool enough at night now for a fire. DW and I are really wanting to go. We are talking about going this weekend even if we can't have a fire. At least the nights will be cool enough to sit outside for a good while in the mornings.

Keep the pics coming Port. They are great.

Nice park/campground indeed!

Looks like a place we would enjoy.

Whats the dominate tree there? Pine, Spruce, Fir etc... What type are they?

Nice pictures Dan. That entrance reminds me of something I've seen coming onto military installations.

Being a forester, I would say they are Monterey Pine and Cyrpess trees.

Actually, I looked it up on their web site in the trail section. Cheers Shooters

I wonder why. The CCC built most of the old state parks. Also I had pictures from the trip to Morro Bay SP and they built most of it.

I forgot to finish my post. I can not find the pictures but will keep looking. Also it shows them building mess halls and living quarters like you see in old Army bases in the SP's.
