Another Propane Frig Problem

Post by flyman on 9/20/2011, 12:07 pm

My Dometic frig will not light from propane. It just clicks off each time propane is selected. Worked fine this summer but went out over Labor Day ...I replaced the thermocouple...Any more ideas?

Have you went over and checked all the normal problems? Purge all the air out and light your cook top burners for a little while...make sure your igniter is clicking and the tip is producing a spark...make sure the tip is aligned to the gas tube.... while your in there, check for critters w/small webs...mine will not light real quick. It's funny, but I have gotten almost mad at times. The igniter cycles several times with no results. I pull out of the driveway and stop 100' down the drive, and go back to the fridge and it's burning. I have learned to wait 15 minutes and then check it again. And it is always burning. If you have checked all the normal stuff, and you have replaced the board, and wait 15 minutes for good luck, I am of no help. The last problem I had with my fridge was my regulator on the drivers side went bad. But with that said, my cook top burners would not stay lit.

I believe I have done most of those things ie. opened the gas line at the frig with good flow, all the oven burners light, put on new circuit board and thermocouple. About the only thing I have not changed is the solenoid, which I will look at tomorrow. I will check the spark again and take the tip apart as well...basically do everything again to check if I missed something...Thx

The polit orice is real small for propane cobwebs and dirt can plug the orice holes real easy. (dam bugs) using an air comresser can sometimes help. Good luck.

Try lighting right at the orifice with a charcoal lighter, it should light if there is gas passing through the orifice. That is how I checked mine for gas flow. This would also check the solenoid.

mine had a small hole in the fabric or whatever is around the igniter wire and it was sparking to the back of the refridgerator. i just taped it up and it works fine now. i could hear it sparking but would never light.

If your power converter is not putting out CLEAN 12 volt D.C. power you will have problems with the refigerator on propane not lighting and getting a 'check light'. You can disconnect the 12 volt feed from the converter and hook up a fully charged 12 volt battery directly to the refrigerator to see if the problem is your converter. Good Luck
