fading front baggage door

Post by GustheUsher on 9/12/2011, 7:18 am

Our Cat front baggage door seems to be just a bit off colour since we bought it, is there anything I can do to restore it to original color like the rest before it gets worse? Do they discolor because of diesel exhaust and road grit?

Moistened Bounce dryer sheets are very popular amongst the faithful here for cleaning up messes on the exterior. However, if you need something a little more "industrial", try a little 409 or similar type cleaner. Avoid any type of gritty cleanser such as Comet, as they'll scratch the surface.

Will the sheets whiten the compartment door? It looks discolored, kinda yellowish.

No, but if it's road crud, you should see a difference. If it were faded due to oxidation, you'd be seeing it on surfaces directly exposed to the sun more-so than the front hatch which gets alot more shade. Can't hurt to try.

Mine was also yellowed after a couple of years; I had to replace it. FR sent me one at no charge. Same for the speaker grills (which are yellow again, I think I might paint them). Your unit is new enough, I would send Rod a photo; see what happens.

Paint them. I did it to all the yellow plastic parts.

Gus, is the surface of your front baggage door plastic or laminate?

x2 Anything yellow got a coat of Krylon Fusion paint for plastic. It goes on easy and so far it is holding up great.

My front baggage door is the same as the rest, looks like the same stuff the sides are made of.

I understand FR is using a UV resistant automotive grade clear coat on the Cedar Creek Silverback refrigerator vents.

WC Chris-- Could the WC unit do the same to help protect the plastic??

I've read that Cedar Creek does that. Not sure if it's on their Silverback line, which is their more budget-conscious line. It's more comparable to our Wildcat Sterling Edition, which has black refrigerator vents (and does not have the same discoloration issues).

We have yellow discoloration on some of our storage doors. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the amount of sun, as the big door and propane door on the driver's side are white, but the little outdoor shower door is very yellow. We also have discoloring on the curb side, but I'm inside, and that's outside and I can't recall if both doors are discolored or just one. Maybe some of our doors have a different kind of finish than others. It doesn't look good, but we can live with it.
