The plan for September 11th observance
The plan for September 11th observance
We have less than one weeks to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America .
If you forward this email to at least 11 people and each of those people do the same ... you get the idea.
THE PROGRAM:
On Sunday September 11th, 2011, everyone needs to display the flag of these United States of America !!!
On Sunday, September 11th, 2011, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this tenth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.
In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.
Action Plan:
So, here's what we need you to do.
(1) Forward this email to everyone you know (at least 11 people).
Please don't be the one to break this chain.
Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.
(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11
Thank you for your participation... God Bless You and God Bless America !

Re: The plan for September 11th observance
Thanks for the reminder for us to display our flag. It seems that a lot of politicians are toning down the 911 observances. They don't want to offend anyone, but they are offending more people by not observing this occasion with the respect it deserves.
Since people from many nations were affected by the attack on the WTC, I hope our non-American members will display their national flags also.

I have one family member in Iraq, and another going to Afghanistan in a month. Our flag flies every day...
I am from NYC and lost friends in the attack. Number one on my bucket list is to visit the memorial site and search for their names. Just typing this has brought back much sadness....I will never forget.

Our youngest boy is also currently in Iraq. The US flag and his deployment flag both fly 24/7...sun shines on it during the day, and a spot light shines on it during the night.
Here's trivia question for ya'll...
When flying a flag in remembrance, when is it appropriate to fly at half-mast Vs full-mast? And, are there exceptions to the rule?

Re: The plan for September 11th observance
My high school football coach was on the first plane. One side note that never came out was that the co-pilot of that plane was also from my high school, but was a year older than me. He was also a football player and this coach was his offensive line coach. I have often wondered if they knew that each other were on the plane. My flag will be flying....as it always is. That will be a tough day for all of us.

Thank your son for his service for me; and thanks to your family as well.
In answer of your trivia question, I found this information on the site of Gettysbburg Flag Works
In additional to the traditional half-staff salutes when proclaimed by the President, the Flag Code mentions the use of our Flag for honoring citizens who have died, especially government officials and prominent citizens. However, the Flag Code does not exclude any citizen, whether they belong to an organization or not, whether they are recognized very locally or regionally. Examples of deceased citizens that might be honored with by lowering the Flag to half-staff include local religious leaders, youth leaders, honored teachers or sports coaches, local politicians, or a local hero. There need be no authorization from the government for the private sector (non-government) to use the Flag to honor any citizen. It is important to note that the Flag Code is a code, it is intended to provide guidance and is not obligatory. It carries no civil or criminal penalties for "misuse" of the Flag. Individual are not acting illegally when using the Flag according to their own usage. Only on government / public building is the flag code required to be followed.

Re: The plan for September 11th observance
Thanks, Glen. I've seen the flag at half staff and wondered who died. Now I'll have a respectful thought for whoever it was that was considered worthy of such an honor.

That's a great picture. I looked at it for a while before I noticed the sun coming through the stars makes a cross.

We'll be flying ours on a 23' pole attached to the Cat at Huntington Beach State Park.
After the 11th our 20' kite will be flying.

I really don't know Glen. I think it was sent to me via e-mail sometime back. I really liked the symbolism.

Re: The plan for September 11th observance
I first saw the photo shortly after 9/11 when I was looking for a picture of a flag on google. Lots of flags, but this one was the best. The photo needs to be printed a million times and then dropped over ground zero when the generic ceremony takes place.
