Manzanita Lake, Hat Creek
We took a trip today and took to many pictures, but thought you all might want to look at what Manzanita Lake in Lassen Park looks like. Also Hat Creek just outside of McArthur, in case you want to camp there in the future. [img]

Thanks for the pics, Maxtor. The water looks so blue.

Re: Manzanita Lake, Hat Creek
We live in a mountainous area, having peaks of 6,000 to 14,000 ft. so the lakes and streams are clear because of the running water. It was a shock to see the brown water in lakes when we took our trip around the USA. Oldelmer1 took us to some "really brown" lakes and streams near the east coast. Some of them smelled like our treatment plants out here. The only time we have brown water, is when it rains hard and drains mud in the water. It has been 50 years ago, but the last time we were at the Salt and Sea "stagnate water" lake in Southern California, I don't remember it being brown, but it could be now.

Re: Manzanita Lake, Hat Creek
We moved to this area from Southern Cal. 36 years ago, for the clean air and beautiful forests, mountains, lakes and streams. I was a pilot for a company out of Riverside Ca. (southern ca.), and every time I would land the company plane, I would wipe smog of the leading edges of the wings. I decided we were not going to live there anymore, so went north until I found clean air. We are fortunate to live here, but politics are about to drive us out. Reality is that time is getting short, and just depends on how bad it gets here before we leave, or die. We are fortunate that both of us have good retirements, so money is not an issue. Political stupidity is. Unfortunately here in Kalifornia, we are outnumbered. Texas is looking better all the time. I have not seen a location in Texas that is as beautiful as it is here, but lowering my blood pressure might give me a few more years.

Yes, it was kinda weird to see brown water in lakes and streams when we took our long trip this past summer.. At The Dells, in Wisconsin I asked the boat driver about it, and he said it is Tinatic Acid from the rocks all over the area. It is the same thing they put in Root Beer.....it wont hurt you, but you might get a permanent tan if you swam in it.

We've seen lakes with the most beautiful green water - nothing wrong, just caused by the elements in the earth.
