Tire Tumor

Post by jetskier on 8/30/2011, 3:15 pm

Well. They lasted 6 seasons. One has fatal tumor growing out of it's side. Another is showing signs.

I don't really want to replace them now with the season coming to a close, but we have two camping trips left so I have no choice. I was hoping to get by until next spring since it sits for the winter.

These are the factory tires.

Had the same thing happen friday to one of my Truck tires. affraid They had 59,000 miles and they were the ones that came on the truck stiil had fair amount of tread left. Looked at the other three and they had cracks in the side wall. So I am replacing all four. AwwMan OUCH. they were BFGs. Replacing them with BFG Rugget Trail
char124 So a word to all. Do not forget to Check your TV Tires also.

I had a Firestone do the same thing in 2001 with only 15k on it.

The wife has the BFG Rugged Trails on her Expedition and they are not wearing well. 20k and they need replacement. Costco is going to credit/prorate the mileage (60k rated tires) on the tires so I can get a new set before winter. I'm going to go with the Michelins like I have on my truck.

The tumor is getting bigger each day just sitting in the sun. Tomorrow I'm off to get a couple to get through this season. Can't eat tires, so I'm not doing them all right now.

Wish you were closer, I have some Duro's that I took off the Cameo and replaced with Goodyear G614's. I would make you a good deal on them.

Ouch! At least you found the buldge while at home, and you didn't have a blowout on one of those last trips of the season.

Today's going to be an expensive day. The built-in microwave in my house just went......grrrr!!!

So now it's tires and a microwave. After I tore the microwave down, the magnetron appears to have died.

Sorry to hear that. I really feel your pain.

This summer the compressor on the central a/c and the circuit board on our oven, and the coffee maker all went out the same week - these were house units, not trailer.... and that was about 10 days after we let our home warranty expire.

If you got it spend it Jet,,,,,, If you don't and would rather wait ,,,,,,, Go looking for some spares. I found a brand new/ Used trailer tire at tire shop I always go to. Went in looking for a spare Boat trailer tire, and low and behold he has some guy that comes around selling used tires that just happened to have some...... They were 4yrs old but looked like they had never been used and were kept inside. $30 Bucks Mounted and balanced.
He had another one just like it I think i'm gonna go get it to.

I bought a pair of tires to get by. Nothing fancy. Same China crap that lasted 6 years. Next spring I'll worry about the rest unless they form tumors on the trip.

The microwave is fixed. Had to drive up to Reno (1 hour away) to get a new magnetron. $107 and my time. The parts guy said microwave popcorn is the #1 reason for failures. My kids love the stuff and had it yesterday for a snack ironically. Since I was up in Reno, I had to stop at Sears and use up a gift card to buy more tools. I had to do it. Twisted Evil

Now I have to go put the two tires on the trailer. That's a job for later tonight when it's cooler. It's about 88° and 8% RH.

6 years is about the wear out point on trailer tires.

I know. I check the tires all the time. I'm a cheap bastard and I'm on a budget with work being extremely slow. Structural Engineer is not a good profession to be in Nevada right now. Work is extremely slow. The only work I have is structural inspections for buildings in escrow or seismic retrofits on existing buildings being re-purposed. At least out west, we think of seismic. Can't say the same for the folk on the east coast. Poor Washington Monument.
