Ford Overhead Console

Ford Overhead Console
The overhead console suddenly quit (temp, direction, mileage, etc.). I took it apart and a chip fell out into my hand. I'm guessing the solder gave way. Anyone else have their console go bad? If so, how did you go about fixing it?

Could not resist TC. If I had any idea how to fix it, I'd surely have posted. Does the chip have solder on it or could it have been plugged in?

Wish I knew. We've got a Ford F250 also (still working okay). Please let us know how you solve this.

It was definitely soldered. There's several more just like it that's still attached. Might try to find an electronics repair place, if such a thing exists, and see if they can fix it for me.

TC - I do not have one and wish I did. Have you heard of any one installing one after the fact?

Not that I know of. Unless, they take one from a similar model scrapper and install.

That might be an interesting investigation. I wonder if the wires are already there. Thank you for the thought.

Re: Ford Overhead Console
I fixed mine on my 02. It also had one of the chips that was only hanging on by one side. I believe you can find the resistors at Radio Shack. Use a pencil style soldering iron and solder them in. I simply soldered my loose one back in and it works...even though one is still missing.
Check out this thread. If you go to page 12 there is a picture of the circuit board. This thread also makes mention of several companies you can send the circuit board to for repair.

I can't post external links for 7 days, being a new member. But replace the colon with : and the period with . and it will get you to the link. Hope that helps.
