Now no brakes !!!!
Well after changing the bearings and seals on the cat ,we have no brakes. They will grab a little with both nobs on the controler turned all the way up.I cleaned the shoes and magnets with brake cleaner . Is it ok to spray brake cleaner on the magnets? I adjusted the shoes and took it on a 20 mile ride today and rode to brakes a lot they got a little better but not where they need to be. They where working fine before I pulled the hubs.any Ideas???
thanks in advance Danny

Danny,
After reassembling the hubs, did you readjust your brake shoes? Turn the adjusting wheel until the brakes shoes grab the drum and then back off 1/4 turn or until the wheel freely turns.
Just a suggestion.

Ditto the above but also check after a 1000 miles or so to keep them working in top condition

Re: Now no brakes !!!!
Thanks Mike and Sean,
Yes I did adjust them , Just did not clean them enough
After tearing them down again I Noticed they need more cleaning , and after cleaning them well I noticed the shoes where cracked bad all of them ...So the cat got all new brakes. Funny just shoes where $49 per wheel and you could get a brake assembly for $69 with shoes, magnets, and all ..Just clip the 2 wires and 5 -3/8 bolts and done . Brakes are working fine now , heading for Colorado tomorrow. This is down to the wire......

Nothing like a little drama to make you appreciate the trip even more.

I'm looking at replacing mine next spring. Since I haven't started looking around for replacement parts. What brand is everyone using? Actual LCI parts? I know a lot of parts houses handle Dexter parts but not too sure on the Lippert parts?

Re: Now no brakes !!!!
I had the pleasure of visiting Shady Pines when we camped at Clear Springs COE park. Extremely nice folks there and a nice all around selection of campers. If I were to be in the market for something new, I'd seriously consider buying from them, even if they are 1.5 hours away.
We purchased a few things from them and one of them was defective. When I returned it, they apologized profusely and immediately replaced it with another one after opening it and making sure it was in working order. Just great folks there. Attitude is EVERYTHING.

we take 160 all the way from Dodge city Kansas straight through to Arizona and we pass through Durango. sometimes we will take 25 south off I70, the pikes peak area is awesome to!
I think next year we are going to plan a stop for a few days instead of just passin through...
The Silverton looks like an awesome train to see and ride did you get a chance to look for any SILVER or GOLD! I see the signs in Durango and have a hard time not takin 550 I think it is? to check it out.
