Kiptopeke State Park, Eastern Shore Virginia
We spent last week at Kiptopeke State Park ( http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/kip.shtml ). Great campground. Spacious sites with full hook ups and cable.....yes, cable TV in a state park.....
On our way:

Overview of CG:

Beach:

Sunset by the beach:

Dinner:

All set up:

Bird banding:

Well.....on the last day we had a fast storm move in.....

and:

The limb was about 6" in diameter and 12 feet long and managed to hit the camper as well. Tore a couple of places on the rubber roof membrane which I fixed (I carry rubber roof repair material and caulk in my tool box consisting of a roll of http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/dicor-self-adhesive-patch/5738 - left over from a oh s@$& a few years ago - and http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/dicor-self-leveling-lap-sealant/5737).
Insurance will cover the truck.....

Thanks for the pics and the report. It looked like a perfect trip until the storm. That limb really did a number on the hood of your truck. I guess Mother Nature got up on the wrong side of the bed that day.
Thanks again for sharing.

Bummer about the truck, but those sunset pictures look like it was worth it.

Beautiful pictures. That is quite amazing for a state park to have cable - very nice.
Stressful way to end the week. Glad everything was/is fixable, and that no one got hurt. I hope there wasn't a pet in that animal crate.

Nice looking state park. Looks like a great place to get away for a week. Pretty Golden Retriever too.
The tree limb sucks but sounds like you were prepared. I doubt most would have had the materials to patch the roof with them.
Look at it like this; You can now get all those little paint chips/knicks fixed on the front of your truck.
She'll look good as new again when you get her back.

We use US-13 and the Chesepeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel whenever we have to go south and hook up with I-95. We always try and avoid the Baltimore/Washington DC metro area. I can't tell you the number of times we've passed the sign for Kiptopeake State Park CG and wondered about it. Now we know.
Many thanks for the post and the pix. Good on ya'!
The trip on US-13 from the DE/NJ bridge to Kiptopeake may seem long, but the scenery is beautiful once you're south of Dover.

Shooter,
We have stayed at Kiptopeke ST park before and agree, its a really nice place.
Did you happen to eat at Sting Rays? Its kind of a dumpy looking truck stop, but the food is really good and cheap.
Also, at this time of year, a trip into Cape Charles to look at all the Crape Myrtles blooming. You'd think the Crape Myrtle is the town's tree, cause they are everywhere, just as pretty as could be.
Sorry about your hood and roof.....

She's saying "LEAVE MY BIRDS ALONE".
Awesome sunsets. Thanks for the pics. Really happy no one was hurt and the damage was not worse. Just a bit further up on your truck and you could have driven home with the wind in your face.
Good thing you pulled in your awning.

Re: Kiptopeke State Park, Eastern Shore Virginia
Thanks for all the compliments.
The truck goes in the shop tomorrow, my comprehensive insurance will cover the repair and I have no deductible.
I really don't care about the damage of the truck. The great trip sure made up for it.
The wind came so fast that I needed help getting the awning in. A couple from Canada helped me, I was holding on to the awning string, the couple's husband was to the left of me and his wife to my right on the awning legs when the branch came down. The tree branch came within inches of the wife but didn't touch her, thank God. I gave them some of the rubber roof patch material for helping. I didn't even have to ask, they came running over.
Yes Tom, we ate at Sting Rays about 3 times, great bbq. We also took a trip up to Chincoteague (daughter loves horses…) and spent some time at Cape Charles.
Hey Mike, I definitively recommend staying there, there's talk between DW and I spend another weekend there as early as September. The cost is only $35.00/night, but dogs are $5.00/day extra (of some reason they only charges us about $15.00 and some change for the week for ours???).
Crabbing for blue crabs is really good there.

No, the dog (Gracie our Golden) was not in her crate. She only stays in there (in the trailer) while travelling and the crate is stored outside nce we get to the CG. My wife took the photo while I was moving the crate and I used Photo Shop to remove myself (wanted to spare everyone from seeing me in my swimm trunks without shirt....lol).
