Lake Ouachita, Arkansas
Does anyone know of a nice camp ground near Lake Ouachita? Also, can anyone recommend a good fishing guide? DW and I want to do some Striper fishing, but have no boat and no tackle to handle the job. Final question, what is the best time of year for Stripers here?

Re: Lake Ouachita, Arkansas
We haven't been to Lake Quachita since around 1980. We stayed overnight in a little campground that had no facilities, then the next day our trailer was secured on a small barge (Camp-a-float) where we plied the waters for about a week. It was fun. I don't think Camp-a-float is still in business - either people weren't interested, or the procedure was deemed unsafe. Great fun while it lasted though. We did the Camp-a-float twice.
We drove through Lake Quachita SP, and it looked good - but that was years ago, don't know how it would be now.

The C/G I like best is Tomsons Bend it is on the upper end of the lake (10 min boat ride to big water) but the sites are closer to the water and more level than anywhere else. Don`t know about the fishing . I have seen the camp a float barges up there pushed to the side not used any more that would be fun ,,,cheap house boat.
Quachita is a great lake..

We used to use Camp-a-Float back in the mid 80's. We did some scuba back then and had a blast. We had a small Itasca with my dad and brother, and we used it a great deal more than they. Pull up to an island, drive in the stakes, tie the ropes, pull out the ramp, set up the TIKI Torches, mix the drinks, fire up the grill. Man, those were great days.
Thanks for the info. I'll check on Tomsons Bend.

The state park is nice, we stayed there 2 years ago. The sites on the water are a little tight, but they have a loop not on the water that is nice and roomy.
Crystal Springs is a nice campground with lots of water sites. Stayed there this winter / spring and really enjoyed it.
As far as striper, it seems like most people fish for them in the spring.
