Puzzling hitch question

I'm kinda baffled?? Ive always pulled the lever on my 5er hitch to the open-locked position and drove out from under my 5er. Now when I pull the lever to open locked position it doesnt open enough to release the pin on the 5er, it opens but not quite far enough, so the hitch pin cant slide past the the lock bar?? If I pull the lever out farther by hand my wifey can just drive right out from under it. The lever is not adjustable so nothing has moved at least to my knowledge??? Any input greatly appreciated.

Have you tried spraying with a lubricant to make sure every thing is moving freely. I have to do this with my hitch on a regular basis to keep it working properly.

Spray all the moving parts well with white lithium.

Your problem could be a weak or broken spring. If so, that's a cheap fix.
