11 Day Camping trip
Just got home yesterday after an 11 day trip. We first went to North Bend State Park in Harissiville, WV for 6 days, it was my DW family reunion, we had a good time seeing old friends again. Then three families, one with an 2010 31TS moved to Stonewall Resort for 5 more days, we all had a grate time, the weather was perfect for the whole trip a little hot but still ok. The trailer did better than I expected, the A/C kept us cool and even the bedroom stayed cool. but at night it turned off the AC and just opend a window or two and turned on the Bathroom vent fan, felt a good brezze comming off the lake. The best part was when everyone wanted to see the Auro Level system work, they all said they want it on their trailers. I had my trailer all set up and setting in a chair watching my buddies still trying to get their trailer level, I think thats the best thing they have done for the "Older Groupe of RV users" and teardowm is just as easy, I did order an under sink water filter this morning, the parks water systems just dosent make good Iced Tea of coffee.
While we were at the first park TLC came over to see my Scooter rack, he had seen it on one of my post and him and his wife was in the area, Im glad the did, its nice to meet folks that you have talked to on the fourm and just like most RV owners they were real nice people to meet.
The new truck did an outstang job pulling the cat, I had plenty of power getting up and down these West Virginia Hills, but the MPG wasent the best but I got what I got and Ill just have to live with it. going to the first park I got 6.8 MPG and moving to other park I got 7.9, but we were running in a caravan and not driving quit as I do when by myself and on the trip back home I got 7.4, Im hopeing it gets a little better when I get some miles on the truck, it just turned over 1000 miles on the way home. but all in all Im very pleased with the truck and trailer, looking forward to many more good camping trips. but my Son says we arent camping just changing locations with the trailer, he still likes tent camping, so do I but I like the camper a littl more, there is a place and time for tent camping but just not right now

Re: 11 Day Camping trip
I agree about tent camping vs trailer camping. Trailer camping is the only to go now that we are older. Tent camping was fun, and the almost tent camping in our little Fleetwing was fun. But that was then, and this is now. Would still like to have the little Fleetwing to play with. Could gut it, put in a queen size bed and bathroom, and tow it along as a "guest house."

Rusty, I'm sure glad you had a good trip. Hope you have many, many more!
Last time we went tent camping, it got down to 14 degrees in late July at 9000'. We couldn't pile on enough stuff to keep warm. When we got up the next morning, old Arthur Itis had showed up unannounced and uninvited. And the dish water outside the tent was even frozen over. I vowed the next time I went mountain camping, I was gonna have hard walls, soft bed, and better options to stay warm. I stayed true to my word.

Sounds like you had a great trip. DW and I did a lot of tent camping years ago and sometimes I miss the simplicity of tent camping....sometimes. Not in 100 degree weather though.
I'm curious as to why you ordered an under sink water filter. Don't you use the built-in water filter on the Wildcat?

Re: 11 Day Camping trip
There is around eight of us older guys that take our ATV's on a 40 mile trip to a local lake and stay three days in the spring and fall. We really enjoy ourselves too, we load down our atv's with all of our camping gear, tents stoves and all the other stuff you need for a good ole fashion camping trip, we do some fishing but most of the time is spent setting around the camp fire talking about the good ole days, With my heart problem I wasent able to go this year but if they fix it in September I will make the spring trip, on our last trip I was next to the youngest and I was 62 at the time, but acted like we were 21 again, but it take us a little longer to recover
but its well worth the trip and Im looking forward to the next one

Richard,
On the new 2011 cats they removed the water filter in order for the tankless water heater to work properly, when the filter gets clogged or you use the wrong filter its hard to get the water temp set right so they just left it out

Is this just on Wildcats or do the other manufacturers use the same kind of reasoning?
Rusty, I hope your health issues are resolved in September so you can go out ATV'ing with the old guys. Sounds like you really enjoy it. Keep doing it as long as you can.

Thanks Tater,
Ya I do enjoy getting out like that, I even just like ridding my atv up in the woods and watching nature around here, we have deer, grouss, squirrels, rabbits, bear, cayote and a few other wildlife around here, its fun just watching them in nature
As for the other manafactures I have no idea.

Hi Rusty,
Sounds like you had a great trip, we went to Stonewall Resort from Harper's Ferry, using I68 & I79, what a killer road. I think we got 8 MPG out of our diesel.
But Stonewall Resort is a beautiful campground.

Tater,
Our Montana doesn't have a built in water filter either, but then, we don't have the tankless HWH either.
So I guess other manufacturer's are leaving them out too.

Re: 11 Day Camping trip
We've never used our water filter. Have wondered if we should. Won't wonder anymore if some of the manufacturers aren't even putting them in. We generally don't drink the water no matter where we are. We drink bottled, and make coffee with bottled. We sometimes even use bottled water when we brush our teeth.

We've never used the filter in our Cat either. When on the road we usually use either bottled water (gallon size) or the Brita filter that we bought. Brita filter works good for us.

We use 16 oz bottles and gallons (for coffee). I've wondered about the Brita filters, but since we wouldn't drink the campground anyway, it would be a waste of $$ anyway.

Re: 11 Day Camping trip
Glad to read your back out and about Rusty. We stayed at Stonewall several years ago. Very nice park but perhaps the hottest place in the Universe with no shade available.
We had our boat then and stayed in the water from early morning until late evening to escape the sweltering heat there. They had planted some trees at that time but nowhere near big enough to provide any shade.

We camped there the year they opened and you are right about no shade, but sence then the spots on the right side have grown up real nice and have plenty of shade and a few spots on the loop have trees now but the left side spots are still in full sun, so if you go, try to get in the right side spots,

Re: 11 Day Camping trip
Good to know the trees have grown enough to provide a little relief. The heat was really miserable there several years ago with no escape from the sun.
It will be the right side or nothing if we decide to go back.
Thanks for the info.
