Unexpected Sight

Post by Richard Mondavi on 7/29/2011, 12:20 pm

We were feeding the fish at the Indian Creek Marina on Mark Twain Lake when a very large Koi came in to gets some of the free eats. The large gold colored carp really caught us off guard. I guess someone released a Koi from their fish pond into the lake.

I thought the ones that big were worth a good bit of cash. Alive of course.

Pretty. About how long would you say it was?

If the big ones are worth money, perhaps next time I'll bring a net with me when I feed the fish.

The Koi and most of the other carp were 20 inches or longer. They are hanging out at the dock at a feeding station. You know, a place where a bubble gum machine is filled with fish food and for a quarter you get a small quantity to feed the fish.

I don't think Koi are as valuable as they were a few years ago - when they got popular. They were rare then.

Laughing If fish had emotions, I wonder if they are jealous of the Koi's pretty colors - or like having it around because it's colors make it a better target. Laughing

It is legal of bowfish for carp so it’s a good thing that the Koi is hanging out at the marina where fishing of any type is illegal. You are certainly right about it being an easy target.
